Thank you to all the units who participated in the Hike-A-Thon this year. It really was a great year and we had a lot of units give their all and help raise a lot of funds for their adventures!

If your unit participated please keep an eye out on your email as we are working to close things out and if you didn't participated consider adding it to your plan for 2027!

This month scouts and scouters of Troop 36 made the drive up to Rickett’s Glen State Park. As this park is famous for its hikes that include one-of-a-kind sights of waterfalls, Troop 36 took an over seven-mile trek through the woods of the park. This was enjoyed by many scouts and leaders and even counted towards unfinished merit badge requirements!

Troop 36 was honored to participate in Wreaths Across America this past Saturday at Fairview Cemetery in Boyertown. Scouts not only assisted in distributing and laying wreaths on veteran's graves, but also taking the time to acknowledge and thank each veteran for their service. It was fantastic getting to see everyone in the community who came out to support this effort and share their stories.

Scouts from Gilbertsville Troop 36 met at the Troop 36 Cabin for an extra-special Halloween meeting. After some football, scouts carried pumpkins over the cabin bridges for carving. During the activity scouts ran through a lesson on Scouting for Food in November. With the old projector working once again, scouts put on episodes of Scooby Doo. Once all the pumpkins were carved and lit a small campfire ceremony was held. Pumpkin seeds were roasted over the fire and enjoyed with apple cider.

Scouts from Gilbertsville Troop 36, Sassamansville Troop 291 and Pack 291 met at the Deep Creek Campground in Green Lane State Park for a weekend of camping and pioneering. Present for the weekend were the Troop 36 Marines patrol, Troop 291 Soaring Eagles, Flying Monkeys, and pack AOL patrols. On Saturday evening Pack 291 joined and camped overnight. The weather was beautiful with no rain and reaching temperatures of low 80s*F in the daytime and high 40s*F at night.
On Friday night scouts constructed a flagpole using bamboo spars and rope. This flagpole was used for colors the rest of the weekend. The Marines patrol used new gear to construct a neat campsite using the patrol method. Leaders used their newly refurbished patrol box and had their first campout in a long while with gear, menu, and duty roster separate from youth.
During Saturday program scouts constructed a platform tower using lashings and skills highlighted in First Class rank requirements. The Marines patrol visited newly installed Owl boxes as a part of K. Tyson’s recent Eagle Scout project, followed by some fly fishing on the reservoir. While hiking, the scouts caught glimpses of a wedding ceremony in the park. During dinner there was a potluck picnic where the Marines patrol prepared a garden salad and Troop 36 leaders cooked a full dutch oven of mashed potatoes.
Following the campout scouts are eager to obtain more bamboo to make additional camp gadgets and practice their pioneering. Scouts were happy to work with another troop enjoying large games of football, jackpot, and manhunt.

On July 6th, our scouts started their weeklong trip through Rodney Scout Reservation earning a total of 38 merit badges. Troop 36 also participated in other events such as a bay hike, a frog hunt, and rifle shooting. Throughout the week there were also hardships such as heavy storms and spiders our scouts learned to over come. Overall, scouts had a great time and learned a lot of valuable skills!
