At the bottom of this picture is the name Oyvanenita , which is a Shawnee name for the river, which means River of Rocks, which I think fits the area.

Hello again , and here’s another thought, does any of the older generation remember when steam engine trains ran through the town of Gilbert, if anyone can remember I would love to have your story .,….
Well I will start with a story that my father Onnie Mitchell told me several times in his life , and the story goes with the outbreak of war with Japan , they’re would be blackouts all over the country ,and they’re was also concern from the government that Japan might bomb the railroads , so Dad and his brother Connie Mitchell were hired to watch the train bridge in Gilbert. They had a little guard shack that sat near the intersection in town, one cold night dad said he was in the shack and had a good fire going in the heating stove they had ,when someone knocks on the door, he said that it was a young man and a young woman who were just passing through town and wanted to come in and warm themselves, and dad said he let them come in ,and as they entered dad said he reached for his shotgun he had in the corner , and at that instant the woman screamed out ,(He thinks were J**s ), dad said I just grabbed my shotgun just in case ,because they were strangers.
