As much as we look at parenting aimed toward getting certain BEHAVIORS from our children/preteens or teens, here is a 5 minute look at the larger picture from a biblical worldview. A week ago my youngest brother, a family physician, died at the age of 56. I remember our teen years to some degree though we were separated in age by five years. In the past days I have been thinking quite a bit about how we were raised and about sibling rivalry, which I think we quietly carried on though not in a loud and disagreeable way. In a passive way, maybe. We were taught that "winning" was the best way to live life...winning at anything and everything...Being better than everyone else. I am all for being a winner but now as an adult and a parent I am more aware that the character building needed in teens and the working to produce grace-giving teens are higher callings. It is a thought provoking topic.
