Last night, we held our last meeting before our summer break. We do not meet in July or August. We wrapped up the 2025-2026 GVAL year by breaking bread with our fellow artists and their families.

We enjoyed a delicious, potluck dinner, which was provided by our members. There were so many delicious dishes to choose from. Great job, GVAL members!

We also held a silent auction. Members contributed new or gently used, art related items. We raised $377, which will benefit GVAL in the future.

Our 2026-2027 Board was announced (more on that in a separate post). Special thanks to the 2025-2026 board members, who did a remarkable job.

The Summer Art Challenge was presented by Sharon Hess. (more on that in a separate post).

Last but not least, the Artist of the Year was selected. Congratulations, Elvie Becker!

When we resume our meetings in September, we will be preparing for our month long Member’s Fine Art Show: October 3rd-November 3rd.
GVAL members, please renew your membership prior to the show by completing an online application. Check GVAL.org for the renewal application.

Are you ready to take on the GVAL SUMMER ART CHALLENGE? Sharon Hess announced it at our June 4th meeting! The member participants will take their finished Summer Challenge pieces and an unaltered photo of their reference to the next member meeting on Thursday, September 3rd to be considered for the September Artist of the Month. The winner will receive a ribbon, publicity on GVAL’s website, social media and Art Vine newsletter, and will be considered for Artist of the Year!

Here are the directions: Find a photo or take a photo. Cut it in 3 or 4 pieces. Rearrange them out of order. Draw, paint or build your out of order artwork. If you create a drawing or painting, it must be in a frame and wired or on canvas at least 1 1/2 “ deep, wired, and have painted edges. This is great practice for an upcoming art show. Let’s see how creative we can be!

In January, Elvie’s peers voted her Artist of the Month for her 12x12 oil painting 'The Blankie', which qualified her to be considered for this prestigious recognition.
