Melanin Magic was founded on the heart of two women, Ria Martinez and Latoya Beverly, who met by chance but shared the same vision and passion to create lasting change in the world they lived. Together, they observed an urgent need for a forum for like-minded minority leaders to connect with one another within their own local community, and with that, the two women combined their knowledge and strength and turned it into magic. With that, Melanin Magic was born in Phoenix, Arizona in 2019.
The original idea was simple: to create quarterly sophisticated urban networking events for professional men and women of all colors and backgrounds to not only create professional connections but to also have meaningful conversations around culture, race, diversity, and inclusion. Events were planned for the 2020 year with the first event aptly scheduled for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and themed after his infamous āI Have A Dreamā speech.
However, what started as just events quickly grew into a much grander vision as Latoya and Ria progressed in planning; they witnessed firsthand limitations placed on minorities to funding business endeavors and barriers to financial resources as they researched how to make their venture a success. But magic sparked once again and the words of Martin Luther King Jr.ās speech permeated their souls to give them inspiration to create a movement for all. That movement is the Melanin Magic Foundation.
The Melanin Magic Foundation is a nonprofit collective of culturally diverse entrepreneurs and leaders that seek to provide minorities with education on financial and business resources, community support in the pursuit of turning dreams into reality, and the creation of greater opportunities that will create lasting legacies for those who follow in our footsteps. The vision of the foundation goes beyond just Ria and Latoya. The foundation is for every individual who has a dream to be a leader in their community; the foundation is for all professionals who need help on how to grow and be successful without the limitations placed on them by society; the foundation is for every man, woman, boy, and girl who believe in change; the foundation is for our now but most importantly, itās for our future.
It started with two but the Melanin Magic Foundation is about minority leadership coming together as a movement; only question is: are you down?
