When Opal was born, her parents were ready for a fresh start. Briana and Turhan worked hard through their recovery journey to keep their baby girl in their lives.
Facing pregnancy while struggling with substance use, Briana felt terrified and uncertain entering motherhood.
"I didn't think I was capable of becoming a mother. I wasn't living a life to have a child, I was terrified. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know what to expect."
As a new mother in early recovery, Briana was unsure of what to expect, but later that feeling changed.
At Hushabye, she found a sense of security knowing she and Opal were being cared for, allowing her to focus on her recovery and build confidence as a parent.
Today, Opal is 1 year old and she is thriving! Her parents remain active in our services, and her family continues to build a bright future.
"I'm personally proud of how responsible I am. I am able to overcome the urges and cravings I have, and I ride that wave of emotions, but hard times will pass.”
