In July 2025, Community Health Care reported nearly 1,300 children in foster care in Pierce County. These are children in our local community who deserve care and connection.

Homestead Community supports foster families through subsidized housing and resources. Get to know us and share this post to help more of your neighbors and friends find a way to get involved to help every one of these kids know they are safe, valued and loved.

A home is where everyday life happens: shared meals, familiar routines, and time with the people we love. As the Millers celebrate 40 years of fostering children, their story reminds us how much a loving, welcoming home can mean.

Our Spargo House was transformed with help from Homestead’s donors, sponsors, and volunteers. With four bedrooms and room to gather, it reflects a purpose close to our hearts: creating space for siblings to stay together.

For our founder, Sue Braaten, Homestead began with children she could never forget.

As a Court Appointed Special Advocate, Sue witnessed children moving from home to home. She dreamed of something different: a safe, familiar place where children could feel loved, supported, and surrounded by people who would keep showing up.

That dream became Homestead Community. ❤️ Today, it continues through every home, helping hand, and person who believes children deserve stability and connection.

At HopeRaiser, Amber shared her story of growing up with her sisters in the care of Brad and Nancy Miller, who now call our Spargo House home.

Among the milestones was a tender memory: Nancy sewing Amber's favorite stuffed Kitty back together, lovingly adding eyes to its face. A little act of care that stayed with her.

For 40 years, Brad and Nancy have fostered more than 250 children. Their commitment comes to life in stories like Amber's through everyday moments of love and adults who keep showing up.

Amber's closing words stayed with us: "I wouldn't change a thing."
