Washington State Recycling Association

Washington State Recycling Association WSRA is the vision and voice of ♻️ in the state of Washington. Our nonprofit 501(c)6 allows us to influence government policy.

The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA) was formed in 1976 to support the fledgling recycling industry and promote recycling in the state of Washington. WSRA provides a forum for discussing recycling issues at a level that reflects the deep pool of membership expertise. We encourage education and growth through newsletters, quarterly meetings, annual conferences and award presentations.

WSRA members encompass a diverse group of city, county and state government staff; non-profit organizations; representatives from recycling and solid waste companies; compost processors; green builders; colleges and universities; and private citizens. With over 500 members, WSRA continues to set the industry standard for encouraging sustainable legislative initiatives and awareness.

As battery-powered technologies continue to evolve, so do the challenges of safely managing them. Join us on October 31st from 11:00am to 12:00pm for an essential session on battery safety and recycling, featuring speakers who will unpack the critical issues surrounding battery laws, fire risks, and recycling processes.

In this session we’ll cover:

-The New Washington State Battery Law and highlights from the Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Report, presented by Megan Warfield, Product Stewardship Unit Supervisor, Dept. of Ecology.
-Fire Storage Law and Facility Risks, explored by Scott Lancaster, Deputy State Fire Marshal-Hazmat, WSP-State Fire Marshal’s Office, focusing on battery-related fire hazards.
-The Battery Recycling Process, explained by Kristen Bujold from Cirba Solutions, a leader in battery recycling.
