In this world, God has only given us two roads to travel on, spiritually speaking and that's Jesus or hell? One is straight and narrow and the other is broad and wide that leads to destruction. Mt 7:13-14. We can only choose one path, but many wander around aimlessly. They believe they can get through life just by winging it. There was a wise preacher who used to say, “If you aim for nothing, you will surely hit it.” naught, no value. Winging it will get you somewhere, but not where you want to be. The Bible tells us that you reap what you sow according to Gal 6:6-8. The path you choose will be what you sow. You will sow it, it will grow, and you will reap it. If you choose to sow the broad and wide path, it may bring quick happiness but also become bitter to your soul.
The world doesn't seek salvation because of their pride and self-righteousness. Most people in the world believe that their good works will get them into heaven. Billionaires give a lot to charities and create jobs. Politicians fighting for their communities, or the ordinary Joe that just tries doing right on his own, but all these things are but filthy rags onto the Lord. God gave us the sabbath so that we may have rest and Jesus became our sabbath at Calvary. He wants us to look to Him and choose the road that is straight and narrow so that we may not wander anymore.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29 KJV
Jesus has already done the work for us and all we have to do is to look upon Him and believe. Quit looking at our own works. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. God is pursuing you right now and you must choose what path you want to follow. Jesus or hell?
God pursued Adam and Eve after they sinned in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3)
God pursued Hagar when she ran away from her problems. (Genesis 16)
God pursued Elijah when he ran from Ahab and Jezebel. (1 Kings 18-19)
God pursued Paul on the road to Damascus. (Acts 9)
And God pursues us.
I ran for years from God, but He never stopped pursuing me. He let me go my own way, but He still kept pursuing me and I kept rejecting Him, but He never stopped that pursuing.
In Luke 24 it tells about 2 disciples walking and discussing among themselves about Jesus and the things that had happened after the crucifixion when Jesus shows up, but they did not recognize him. Charles Spurgeon said that when 2 people begin to talk about Jesus they soon will end up talking to Jesus. Jesus spoke with them and expounded on things and scriptures that they already already knew. Jesus showed the Jesus in the Old Testament scriptures and let scripture speak for itself.
The disciples invited the stranger into their home and He ate with them and He broke bread and gave it to them to eat and their eyes were opened and they knew Him and He vanished. Then verse 32 says:
“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
Luke 24:32
When you have an encounter with Jesus, your heart will have a burning from within. Oh, how we all need to feel that fire in our heart. That burning in our hearts shows companionship. The churches today need that burning in our hearts to be ignited again, to be rekindled.
Every day we wake up we are to choose what path we are going to take today and stick with it. Are you going to walk with Jesus or are you going to walk with the crowd on the path of destruction?
