Someone claiming to be tech support tells you there’s a serious problem with your computer. Then they tell you how to pay:

💳 Buy gift cards.
💸 Send a wire or bank transfer.
₿ Pay with cryptocurrency.
📱 Use a payment app.

STOP.

The FTC warns that tech support scammers often request payment methods that make it difficult to recover your money.

And when it comes to gift cards, the rule is especially simple:

If someone tells you to buy a gift card and give them the card number or PIN as payment, it’s a scam.

Don’t send the money. End the conversation.

💰 “We owe you a refund.”

That can be the beginning of a tech support scam, too.

You may receive an email or text saying you were charged hundreds of dollars to renew a computer security or tech-support subscription. The message tells you to call immediately to cancel the charge or receive a refund.

Once you call, the scammer may ask for remote access to your computer or financial information. Some scammers then claim they accidentally refunded you too much money and demand that you send the difference back.

Before reacting to an unexpected renewal notice:

✅ Don’t call the number in the message.
✅ Don’t click its links.
✅ Check your actual bank or credit-card account for the charge.
✅ Contact the company directly using independently verified contact information.

An unexpected “refund” can be just as suspicious as an unexpected bill.

STOP ✋🚫🛑

Remote-access software can allow another person to control your computer from somewhere else. That can be useful when you have contacted a trusted technician for help.

But if an unexpected caller, email, text, or pop-up tells you to install remote-access software, do not do it.

The FTC warns that tech support scammers may use remote access to:

🔹 Access information stored on your computer
🔹 Install malicious software
🔹 Obtain usernames and passwords
🔹 Steal personal or financial information

Never give remote access to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.

If you need technical help, contact someone you know and trust.

We had such a great time stopping by Ranch Brand W**e & Spirits while we were out spreading the word about our upcoming Wimberley Mah Jongg Tournament benefiting Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area!

🤠🦆 FAYETTE COUNTY HAS A WINNER! 🦆🏆

The votes are in, and Murphy's Steakhouse has officially claimed the title of Fayette County’s Best Business Duck with the fabulous Gorgegina! 🌟

This country-chic girl came dressed to win in her classic red bandana and turquoise-trimmed cowboy boots, proudly representing one of Winchester’s favorite landmarks.

And Gorgegina has a pretty great namesake! She gets her hardworking country spirit from Murphy’s owner, Georgianna Fox-Orona, who not only manages the steakhouse but also serves as Winchester’s postmaster. Just like Georgianna, Gorgegina is all about hard work, big smiles, small-town Texas hospitality—and, naturally, a legendary hand-cut steak. 🥩

We’re giving Special Honors to ARTS - Arts for Rural Texas for a duck that celebrates art, creativity, and a very familiar head of happy little curls!

Their Business Duck is an ode to one of the most recognizable painters of all time, Bob Ross, with an extra-special local connection to the ARTS Ross Gallery. We love the clever play on the name and the way they turned their duck into a tribute that is perfectly ARTS. 🎨

Some ducks are ready to race. Whataburger’s duck is ready for vacation. 😂🌴

We’re giving Special Honors to Whataburger for this ridiculously fun tropical creation! Complete with a lei, sunglasses, beach ball, umbrella, sandy beach, and plenty of Whataburger orange, this duck understood the assignment: sun, sand, and absolutely no responsibilities.

The tiny Whataburger details make it even better, right down to the miniature cup and branded beach setup. 🏖️🦆

🎨🦆 SPECIAL HONORS — LEE COUNTY! 🦆🎨

We couldn't wrap up our Best Business Duck contest without giving Special Honors to the Lee County Arts Center for this little masterpiece!

Meet “Happy Little Accidents” — proof that apparently even a rubber duck can channel its inner Bob Ross. 😂 From the curly hair and beard to the tiny easel, paintbrushes, paint-splattered apron, and of course those happy little accidents, they absolutely committed to the assignment.

We love seeing our local organizations get creative, have fun, and support Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area at the same time.

We have to give Special Honors to Janie and Brigette for Lady J Beauty for taking us straight back to Saturday morning cartoons with their Business Duck!

“It’s Rabbit Season!” 🐰😂

From the unmistakable black feathers and giant eyes to the Rabbit Season sign and Elmer Fudd waiting in the background, the details on this one are just too good. They took a plain yellow rubber duck and completely transformed it—and definitely made us laugh!
