The Black Swamp Youth Bass Club had three teams compete yesterday in the Student Angler Federation (SAF) - High School Fishing Ohio Bass Federation Youth High School State Championship on Alum Creek against 49 teams from across Ohio, all battling for just four spots at the National Championship.

The day tested anglers throughout the day, starting with beautiful conditions, followed by a nasty midday storm, and finishing with great weather to close out the tournament.

Dean and Blake brought 5 fish to the scales weighing 7.67 pounds, earning a 16th-place finish.

Mackenzie and Cody weighed in 3 fish for 7.39 pounds, finishing 18th.

Owen and Jack brought 5.27 pounds to the scales and finished 26th.

We’re proud of all three teams for representing Black Swamp with determination and sportsmanship throughout a challenging day on the water. Congratulations to all of our anglers on a great season and a strong showing at the state championship!

This past weekend, Black Swamp Youth Bass Club was represented by four teams at the 2026 Ohio Bass Nation Junior & High School State Championship on Salt Fork Lake.

The event presented anglers with some unique challenges as the lake was flooded more than 3.5 feet above normal pool. Several boat ramps were closed due to high water, forcing tournament officials to relocate the launch site. Fortunately, the weather was beautiful for both days of competition.

On the junior side, Jacob and Xander battled through the tough conditions and brought one fish to the scales on Day 1 weighing 0.78 pounds, which had them sitting in the lead. Unfortunately, they were unable to find a keeper on Day 2 and finished 6th overall in an 18-team field after five teams were able to weigh fish on the final day.

Our high school division was represented by Mackenzie and Cody, Dean and Blake, and Daniel fishing solo. All three teams blanked on Day 1. On Day 2, Dean and Blake were able to put a keeper in the boat weighing 1.08 pounds, which should place them unofficially in 15th place out of the 23-boat field. Mackenzie and Cody and Daniel continued to grind through the challenging conditions but were unable to bring a fish to the scales.

While the fishing was tough, our anglers never gave up and represented Black Swamp Youth Bass Club with determination, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude. We are proud of all four teams for competing against some of the best junior and high school anglers in Ohio and look forward to seeing them back on the water at our next event.

Thank you to all that support from our parents, boat captains, fans and sponsors

Hey everyone.

Unfortunately the water level has not cooperated with us. We will be moving to the Morning Glory Boat Ramp.

Image attached. The ramp is clear and DNR has approved the switch.

If you're looking at the ramp from the parking lot - boats will stage to the right of the ramp. We will launch from right to left past the docks.

All times are the same as listed in the original email.

Additionally - regarding the Bass limits, we've had some conversations with DNR, and will be making an adjustment.

4 fish limit - per team (not per angler)
2 fish over 15"
2 fish 12" - 15"

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please let me know.

LAST CALL for Junior and High School registrations for the OBN State Championship at Salt Fork Lake.

For registered teams - emails have been sent if we are missing any forms or entry fees.

There are still plenty of rooms available at the Salt Fork Lodge. They have held rooms for OBN for nearly a year now, so please consider booking at the lodge if you haven't done so already.

Another tournament in the books for the Black Swamp Youth Bass Club! Today our teams competed in the 2026 Ohio Bass Federation Youth Junior State Championship on Mosquito Creek Lake. The day started off chilly with a few rain showers, but by weigh-in the sun finally came out and turned it into a beautiful afternoon on the water.

Jaxon and Jacob landed 1 fish weighing 3.15 pounds to finish in 13th place. Their fish also earned the second biggest bass of the tournament, missing big bass honors by less than .4 pounds!

Jacob and Xander brought in 2 fish weighing 1.84 pounds to finish in 14th place.

Trent and Hank unfortunately had a tough day on the water and were unable to bring a bass to the scales this time around.

Some days the fish cooperate and some days they make you work for every bite, but we’re proud of all of our anglers for sticking it out and competing at the state championship level. Great job everyone and thank you to all the parents, boat captains, and supporters who continue to make these opportunities possible!
