“The eyes of the World are upon you”

Happy VE Day!! Most people are unaware of the street tea parties that took place on May 8th, 1945 in some English neighborhoods so I wanted to share some photos of those today. Unplanned & just wanting to celebrate with their neighbors, people threw their tables & chairs out into the street to start one heck of a party which also turned into a big tea party at tea time. They grabbed their china and anything they could spare food wise (because of rationing) to share. As you could tell from the photos, it was pure joy. Even more so when night was coming and the street lamps were turned on for the first time in years.

In the US, there were celebrations…. but not like those in England. We still had 3 months to go until VJ Day.

In honor of the 81st Anniversary of VE Day, the Amherst Historical Society in Amherst, Ohio is having me host a 1940s Tea Time and as you know…. Tea Time with me means you always learn something! These tea pots were a huge part of WWII and honestly saved the world in more ways than one….. If you are coming to the party, I can't wait to tell you all about it!
