Judith Arts presented an educational outreach program today for Geyser’s 1st-6th graders. The program was hosted by the Belt Performing Arts Center, and sponsored by the Great Falls Symphony. Students enjoyed listening to and learning from the Cascade String Quartet. Thank you to all of the groups that work together to bring the arts to our students!

Judith Arts Society

In 1984 someone in Hobson asked, “Why can’t Hobson have some quality entertainment as other places do?” Soon a nucleus group was formed to get something started. Organization and funding were the two main hurdles to overcome. It was agreed to form a nonprofit corporation with a Board of Directors. The officers were to be elected from the Board. Initial membership let series ticket holders attend two performances. The annual meeting of the members was to be held in October to elect officers and discuss any concerns. The name was established as Judith Cultural Committee.

Over the years the procedures were simplified. The annual meeting was discontinued and replaced by board meetings scheduled as necessary. As the years progressed, the Board learned of grants available to presenters. Application required an IRS nonprofit determination which was obtained in 1988. With grants and memberships, money became available for three performances per season. In 1996, a contest was held to select a new name for the organization. Judith Arts Society was chosen.

The Board applies for grants for local, state and national arts groups. Partial funding is received from Western States Arts Federation, Montana Performing Arts Consortium, National Endowment for the Arts, Montana Arts Council, the Montana Cultural Trus, the Hobson Endowment and the Judith Basin Endowment Fund.

For the 2002-2003 performance season, a fourth performance was added. This was possible due to the increased number of business sponsors and an increasing subscriber base.
