The Rev. Rebecca Myers Elected President of Harrisburg Civil War Round Table.
The Harrisburg Civil War Round Table has elected The Rev. Rebecca Myers as its new President. She will serve a two-year term ending June 30, 2028.
Also elected to leadership positions were Dr. Mark Blanchard, Vice President, and Tim Wohlford, Secretary.
Myers, a retired Episcopal priest who resides in Newport, previously served as Secretary of the organization. She follows in the footsteps of her father, Robert D. Myers, a longtime member of the Round Table who served as President from 1981 to 1982.
Myers credits her father with inspiring her lifelong interest in Civil War history.
“I had ancestors living in Gettysburg during the 1863 battle, and my father wrote a historical fiction book about the skirmish in Hanover that occurred before the Battle of Gettysburg,” Myers said. “A major part of the war took place in communities where my ancestors lived, making this history especially meaningful to me.”
She also noted that the Civil War remains relevant today.
“The Civil War, its causes, and its aftermath continue to shape our nation,” Myers said. “The Harrisburg Civil War Round Table provides a unique opportunity to learn from outstanding speakers and engage in thoughtful discussion about this pivotal period in American history. I am honored to serve as President and to help continue the organization's traditions of education, preservation, and public engagement.”
Founded in 1959, the Harrisburg Civil War Round Table meets monthly from September through June. Meetings are currently held at Central Penn College in Enola, where members and guests may enjoy dinner before presentations by nationally and regionally recognized Civil War historians and authors.
In addition to its educational programs, the organization supports battlefield preservation efforts, sponsors field trips, and participates in community service projects.
