South Mountain Partnership final call for Flex Grant applications!

The South Mountain Partnership and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy has funding available to support initiatives within our community that further the goals of the Partnership and advance the capacity of partners throughout the region. This small-scale funding opportunity is intended to support projects not traditionally eligible for the SMP Community Impact/ Mini-Grant program. In addition to supporting the SMP mission and goals, priority will be given to ideas that support all communities’ ability to access and enjoy the South Mountain Region.

Awards from $1000- $2000 will be considered, and any requests must be separate from projects submitted through the 2026 SMP Mini-Grant program. Applications are due June 26, 2026.

Alert for Gettysburg residents: Let's flex our civic engagement muscles.

On Monday, June 22nd there are 2 evening meetings that are worth your time to attend:
1) Community Development Block Grant (CBDG) Review #1 from 6:30-7PM in the Council Chambers
- this is a notice for public participation. Use your voice for HOW we use the CDBG funds for community needs.

2) Borough Council Work Session starting at 7PM, also in the Council Chambers.
- A Gettysburg Borough Council work session is an informal meeting of the local governing body for Gettysburg where council members discuss issues in depth before taking official action at a regular council meeting.

Voting is just ONE way to exercise our civil rights - showing up to community meetings matters. It influences our elected officials and (in)directly impacts how we operate today and tomorrow.

CYCLING ENTHUSIASTS ALERT:
Six-day, 200+ mile cycling tour through south-central Pennsylvania, including two days of adventures in historic Gettysburg.

Join the Alliance for the 3rd Annual Gettysburg Loop Tour, a six-day, 200+ mile journey through south-central Pennsylvania, with a two-day stop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, via the 9/11 National Memorial Trail.

Beginning in Harrisburg, PA, on October 21, the cycling tour will move southwest following the 9/11 Trail alignment's loop to Gettysburg before ultimately ending back in Harrisburg on October 27.

A significant highlight of the tour is a stay in Gettysburg, where participants can choose from a variety of routes and rides to explore the Gettysburg Battlefield and other local attractions.

All proceeds from the ride will support the Trail's ongoing efforts to create and maintain a 1,500-mile, multi-use trail connecting the three locations impacted by the events of September 11, 2001.

Local Outdoor Rec Survey needs YOUR input: The survey is gathering feedback about how you would be affected by a portion Big Pond Rd in Michaux State Forest changing from year-round motorized to primarily non-motorized use (walking, hiking, biking, horse riding) with some motorized use during hunting season.

The Adams County Transportation Planning Organization is in the process of developing their 2027-2030 FFY TIP Packet. The TIP lists planned projects and the assigned funding over a four-year period. We are currently in the Public Comment phase of the development process. PA Housing Choices Coalition Call to Action!

We need you to reach out to your representatives to support both HB 2186 (accessory dwelling units or ADUs) and HB 2109 ("The Golden Girls Law" or occupancy reform).

Both HB 2186 and HB 2109 are scheduled for a floor vote in the House during the first 3 days of June.

By enabling small-scale homes like ADUs and modernizing outdated occupancy limits, the legislature can take meaningful action to address Pennsylvania’s housing shortage.

These bills offer practical, bipartisan solutions to expand housing options, ease cost burdens, and allow more people to live in communities of their choosing.

What Are Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and Why Are They Needed?

ADUs, also known as granny flats, guesthouses, or backyard cottages, are independent residences that are detached from, attached to, or within a larger primary dwelling on a single lot.

ADUs can:

Help seniors age in place and stay in their communities
Support caregivers and adult children living near family
Increase naturally affordable housing without changing neighborhood character.

What is the Golden Girls Law and Why Is It Needed?

This law would prohibit local municipalities from enforcing zoning or housing restrictions on the number of non-related people (e.g., roommates, friends) who can live together.

Inspired by the TV show The Golden Girls, the bill aims to:

Reduce housing costs
Improve affordability
Modernize outdated residential rules that limit sharing housing
