Pennsylvania’s broken ma*****na laws tear families apart. PA loopholes disproportionately harm BIPOC Pennsylvanians, who are already arrested for ma*****na at far higher rates than white folks.

This is how our friend Lovelina, a BIPOC mother and caregiver, first became entangled in the system: she faced three ma*****na DUIs under this unjust law.

Her third charge was dropped a year ago! Proof that these arrests are often baseless. But the police harassment didn’t stop. Despite losing her job, finding supplemental work, and working tirelessly to get her special-needs child in a safe in, Lovelina now faces a new third offense: driving on a suspended license.

Without $3,500 for legal defense by September 22, she risks jail time, where her child could be forced into foster care, where his specialized needs won’t be met.

Our dear friend Lovelina , a devoted BIPOC mother and caregiver to her special-needs child, is being relentlessly targeted by local police.

She faces a third offense and jail time after choosing to drive herself to work when no one else could: a choice of survival.

💔 If she is jailed, her child will be placed in the foster system, where his specific needs will not be met. This is not justice. This is systemic rac!sm in action and criminalization of survival.

THE NEED: We need to raise $3,500 by Sept. 22 for her legal defense. This money will keep Lovelina home with her child, safe and supported.
