Happy Birthday to Mrs. Tillie Pierce Alleman. Matilda "Tillie" Pierce born on this day ... March 11th, 1848.

A remarkable woman who at the tender age of 15 witnessed the brutal Battle of Gettysburg while seeking safety with her neighbor Mrs Henrietta Shriver at Henrietta's parents'home(Jacob Weikert). She left with Mrs Shriver on the afternoon of July 1st and did not return home until July 7th

So hello there folks ....yes it has been awhile since there was a post but between work and then getting terminated I find myself with a lot of time on my hands .....so I played with the features on my phone.

We are back! The Tillie Pierce page is back and up and running again! Everything seems to be coming full circle with Tillie and her family and myself and Gail are very proud to be able to carry on her legacy, who she was and what she still means to so many and to all of you who have shown nothing but love and support for her. She is grateful and so are we! “Allan”

The picture courtesy of the Jennie Wade house. Beautiful photo. And a great view of the very flag we are also trying to get Miss Tillie Pierce Alleman. She so truly deserves it. Quite sure Miss Wade agrees

William Henry Harrison Pierce, Tillie's younger brother was born March 3rd, 1841. He entered Pennsylvania College and only attended one year in entering in 1858 but left college in 1859. He joined the Gettysburg Blues Militia on April 22, 1861. At the time his was 20 years, 1 month and 19 days old. He was in Co. E that eventually became Co. K in 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division June 1st 1861. William did see some action during the Civil War. From the information that I can find he fought in the Western Theater with the 15th PA Cavalry. He had seen some action in Harper's Ferry, skirmish in Jonesboro, GA, Kings Court and Thorn hill. I did read somewhere that his company at some point was under the overall command of General Sherman but will have to do more research to confirm....so please don't quote me on that one until I make sure of it.
June 21, probably of 1865 and his company at the time was mustered out of service.
On Independence Day 1867, William married Helen Grace Ziegler (born February 22, 1844) and she was the daughter of Samuel & Sarah (Radford) Ziegler. There is the likely possibility that William and Helen met casually at church. .......

Today I stopped and gave Tillie a very special gift. A Christmas grave blanket. With all of the years that have gone by I’m sure not many have done very much for her here with the exception of just a few including myself and Gail. We wanted to do something special for her. The Christmas bouquet in the center, Gail brought to her and I incorporated it into the blanket and it looks beautiful. For some it’s just a grave blanket but for Tillie, we are sure it means the world to her! “Allan”
