Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Community Center

The heart and soul of Gerton! Membership in the community center is $10 per adult; kids are free.

However, even if you have not paid membership dues, you are welcome to come and take part in our events.

We're sure you've seen this building in Lake Lure. It's the Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach, a food pantry that we have supported for years. Did you know that when we have few donations from the community, the members of the board provide extra food donations so we never go empty-handed?

We know grocery prices are high, but fortunately, what they need from us this month are condiments and seasonings. Easy! Please bring your donations to the Gerton Post Office and place in marked donations the bins under the counter. (We can't accept expired items.) We will deliver to the Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach on Thurs. June 25.

We've been cleaning these roads for decades!

BUT: there's no Highway Trash pickup day on May 29! This is due to the continuing road work along Gerton Highway. We'll resume our cleanup days sometime soon, though.

This Tuesday eve is our monthly potluck at the Upper Hickory Nut Gorge Community Club site (our "open-air dining experience.")

Bring picnic food items to share. The club will provide tea and water for drinks as well as plates, napkins and silverware. Remember that there is no water or electricity. See you there!

This one's easy! The Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach is currently in need of canned fruit and canned vegetables.

Please bring any donations to the Gerton Post Office by April 30. As always, we greatly appreciate your continued generosity and support.
