Mr. Brent Snyder, assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 48 from 2012 to 2022, passed away today at the age of 66 at his home in Naples, Florida. His wife Tammy was at his side. He had recently been diagnosed with a tumor which had invaded a lung.

Brent was active in Scouting America as a youth in Indiana and for 17 years as an adult leader in the Chickasaw Council. As an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 48 he mentored countless young men and was fondly remembered for being the adult the older Scouts wanted to ride with on camping trips. He was especially proud of completing Wood Badge in 2009, Scouting’s advanced leadership course for adults and of being recognized with two of Scouting’s highest honors: the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow in 2015, for his outstanding service and the District Award of Merit in 2019 for his exceptional dedication to youth.

Upon joining the troop, Brent quickly became the assistant Scoutmaster for the new Scout patrol. He attended most of the monthly camping trips and ten week-long summer camps. He also taught Truck Transportation and Fishing merit badges. For the latter he taught many a Scout how to filet and cook his fish.

Mr. Snyder was missed when he moved away in 2022 and will be missed even more for those who knew him well.

May the great Scoutmaster, master of all good Scouts, be with us until we meet again.

Recent Eagle Scouts, Current Life Scouts, and their Parents,

Scouts BSA is conducting a survey about the Eagle Scout Project Workbook.

Help Shape the Future of Scouting America!
Scouting America is updating the Eagle Scout Project Workbook—and we’re exploring a bold new step: creating one streamlined service project workbook for the Eagle Scout, Summit Award, and Quartermaster Award.
Your voice matters. We’re turning to the Scouting community for input on how to make this process more meaningful, effective, and impactful for Scouts across all programs.

We’d like your feedback on:
Service project workbook design
Defining measurable "impact"
Proposal requirements and sections
Updated service project policies
This is your opportunity to shape the next generation of Scouting leadership and service. Share your insights and experiences to help create a stronger system for future Scouts.

The survey will close on September 19th.

Scouts, leaders, parents, and alumni from Venturing, Scouts BSA, and Sea Scouts are especially encouraged to participate.
Together, let’s build a workbook that truly empowers Scouts to lead and serve.

Scouting America is conducting a periodic review of the Eagle, Summit and Quartermaster Service Project Workbooks. We seek to make improvements and welcome feedback from youth and adults on individual elements of the workbooks. You can assist us by completing the following survey:& #16...

From the Aaron on Scouting blog: "Is this the best merit badge for new Scouts BSA members?" It adds a fresh take on how to introduce new Scouts to the merit badge program.

It's a good idea to introduce Scouts BSA members to the merit badge program without making it seem intimidating or unachievable.
