In addition to the expansion into the Okola district in Cameroon through 2016, we have taken the additional step of investing in the long term educational benefit of the students we have been working with. This marks a very exciting new development and we are very pleased to report that the first implementation year went flawlessly. In the Okola district where PSF has been very active, we have launched the first ever PSF scholarships in two formats:
- The PSF excellence scholarship award provides a full ride (tuition – uniforms – school supplies) to one student – from each of our partner schools – that has distinguished themselves through one previous PSF award (top 5 of their class) AND has maintained their performance as the top two students of their class the following year.
- The PSF improvement scholarship award provides a full ride (tuition – uniforms – school supplies) to one student - from each of our partner schools – that has distinguished themselves through the best improvement in scholastic achievement year-over-year, is in the top 2 of their class for the current year and has not previously received a PSF award
For the academic year 2017-2018, PSF awarded 5 PSF excellence scholarships and 5 PSF improvement scholarships. The scholarship value is approximately $100 - $200 each but it is a tremendous help for the families of the students that have been receiving them and the news is spreading through the schools, engaging more students and raising the level for all children as the hope of enjoying the fruits of one’s labor is materializing for these communities.
