The City of Germantown is gearing up for major trail upgrades!
A section of the Greenway will be temporarily closed starting August 6, with construction expected to last up to 120 days, weather permitting.

In May 2024, a portion of the western Greenway was closed and its existing boardwalk was removed due to severe structural deterioration and safety concerns. Since then, the adjacent Beaverloop Trail, a narrow, 6-foot-wide asphalt path through a wooded area, has served as the primary detour.

To achieve a permanent solution, the BMA approved a Professional Services Agreement with Kimley-Horn on January 12, 2026, to deliver conceptual engineering, design plans and construction administration. The importance of reinvesting in this infrastructure was recently underscored in March 2026 when the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) adopted the updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

This replacement project will upgrade the narrow detour into a new 10-foot-wide asphalt trail with 2-foot shoulders, which will significantly enhance user safety, path capacity and long-term durability.

During the closure, you will not be able to access the trail from the Memphis side. Trail users should enter from the Poplar Estates Trailhead, where the path will be easily accessible.
