Cheryl has updates of the planters at Riverdale. Over the summer, she replaced 6 pots of flowers One pot was hostas and kept it the same. In a few weeks she will add some pansies.

From May - Sept, she lovingly watered the planters every two days unless it rained. The last month, her daughter and grandkids helped water them after school. Signs were made and she will continue to care for all of them through the fall.

Our Madonna Garden chair, Tatyana, shared some photos of the beautiful blooms after she weeded the garden. Rudbeckias, or Black Eyed Susans, bloom into September, attract pollinators, and pair well with the hot pink color of butterfly bush. Melampodiums bloom late and are a great contrast to hot pink garden phlox, a pollinator magnet. Consider leaving some seed heads for birds this fall. Joe Pye W**d blooms late and provides food for insects when thereโ€™s not much left around. It is a tall plant for the back of the border, but it can be cut down in May and it will stay shorter. It prefers moist soil, but will eventually take some drought too. Tall verbena blooms throughout summer and can be cut down for more blooms and a shorter version. It gives an airy feel to the garden, is not bothered by any pests, and feeds insects late into the season. They are often confused with ragweed and blamed for allergies. Some goldenrods can get very tall and/or can spread aggressively, but there are short and non- aggressive varieties for smaller gardens too. Tall marigolds, dwarf zinnias, and fall mums bloom happily with fall colors.
