Well... if you want to know how much of a bleeding heart I have I saw an injured little hamster at petsmart Thursday while picking up some supplies. She had an eye injury of some sort and was in bad shape. Definitely should have been addressed sooner and I'd hate to know how long it would have gone unnoticed had I not always gravitate to the hamster section (I really shouldn't - it's not good for me to see them without proper care and treatment).
I picked her up today after they "treated her" by Banfield. She had a ruptured eye. It was just... gone. That is straight up neglect on Petsmart part to have a customer (albeit a knowledgeable hamster customer) point it out. They told me today when I called to check on her that she was ready to go home and could be adopted. So I go pick her up immediately.
I put her in a nice cage (unlike Petsmart) and made sure it was properly done to address her eye disability. I saw her wobble around the enclosure, weak, but she ate which I was thrilled about. I was waiting for her to drink. She wobbled over to a hideout and went to sleep.
She was found tonight, hours later, in her forever sleep. I am devastated. I was ready and prepared to nurse her back to health but unfortunately that did not happen. I am trying to tell myself she finally was at peace to pass. She had a home. She had someone who CARED. She had someone who already loved her.
I named her Penny and Penny deserved better than this. 💔
