Sweet Rosita is doing really well! She has been pretty timid and anxious - understandably so! - but each day is better and better. She attached to me right away, which is great, except that her separation anxiety has made it difficult for me to be out of her sight. 😅 Now, though, instead of crying when I go outside, she does happy chirpy barks when I come back in. 😊 As Rosi decompresses and gains confidence, her sweet, silly personality is starting to come through. ❤️ On the medical front, her labs came back pretty good. Our vet recommended a two-week course of antibiotics before we do her leg amputation, and the meds are definitely having an effect. Her fur and skin are improving, and although she is underweight, she is eating like a champ and will hopefully put on a pound or two before surgery. Amazingly, she does not seem to be in pain, despite having a metal bone plate protruding from her elbow. The nerves in that leg are almost certainly dead. She does have limited mobility, but she makes the most of it - and also doesn’t begrudge me carrying her around a fair amount. 😊 Rosi is truly loved, and it is such an honor to be her second chance. Thank you so much to everyone who cares about her and has sent donations! Our first vet visit last Monday was fully covered by donations, and people have expressed interest in helping with the cost of her surgery, which we appreciate so much. In the dark days of this world we are currently living in, the hope in a scared little dog’s story, and the goodness it brings out in humans, means a lot.
