Welcome to Kindergarten Signing Day! 🎓📚💛

On Monday, August 17th, we had the pleasure of welcoming our newest kindergarteners at Welcome to Kindergarten Signing Day in Williamsburg County! 🎉

We welcomed our little ones with the book I’m Going to Kindergarten by Andrea Posner-Sanchez. 📖 This special reading served as the kickoff to our Read and Lead program!

Our kindergarteners used their listening ears 👂🏽 and smart brains 🧠 to answer questions throughout the story and share what they learned after the reading.

Then came a very special moment — the Declaration of Kindergarten! ✨ Our kindergarteners took an oath to follow four leadership principles that they will learn and practice throughout the school year:

🌟 Be You!
🙏🏽 Be Thankful!
⏳ Be Patient!
💛 Be Kind!

We are excited to watch these little leaders grow, learn, and shine throughout their kindergarten journey.

We will be heading into schools across Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties to inspire young readers and help them Dare to Dream Big! 🌟

This year, we’ll be sharing Dare to Dream Big by Lorna Gutierrez with students and encouraging them to dream boldly, believe in themselves, and imagine what’s possible.

📚❤️ READ & LEAD — CAN YOU SPARE ONE HOUR? ❤️📚

Sometimes, one hour is all it takes to make a difference in a child’s life.

Black River United Way is looking for volunteers to participate in Read & Lead at:

📍 Andrews Elementary
📍 W.M. Anderson Elementary

Volunteers are needed for just ONE hour every nine weeks — that’s only one day every few months! 🙌

During that hour, you’ll have the opportunity to encourage young readers, build connections, and show students that their community believes in them and their future.

You don’t have to be a teacher.
You don’t have to be a reading expert.
You just have to be willing to give one hour of your time. ❤️

💙 Community Baby Shower

Black River United Way was excited to attend the Community Baby Shower hosted by First Choice – Healthy Connections! 🍼💕 in Hemingway at the Chavis One Stop Community Center.

It was a pleasure serving and connecting with expecting mothers while introducing families to The Basics Waccamaw and sharing resources that support early childhood development and kindergarten readiness.

We’re grateful for opportunities to connect with families early and help build a strong foundation for our little ones! 📚✨
