There are many conditions that keep people from full health and wellness. Some of these conditions are a result of barriers to education, health care resources, strong family and community structures, and healthy foods. We believe that through people acting together, wellness is achievable for all people. In fact, that's our vision, families and individuals who are empowered to achieve wellness. B

ecause faith communities of every religion and denomination are an essential part of most communities, and because the tenants of most faith traditions include caring for people, the faith community is a natural partner for growing health. Faith-health partnerships improve health education, help connect people to resources, build bridges i the community, and aid people in improving their own and their families' health. Our mission is to grow health in every community through strong faith-health partnerships. We pursue this mission one congregational health worker, one faith community nurse, and one health ministry at a time. We believe that good health and wellbeing should be shared by all people, and we invite you to join us in this effort.

Are you an RN with a desire to improve health in your faith community?

Faith Community Nursing is a nursing practice dedicated to spiritual care and health promotion in the context of a faith tradition. Many congregations have faith community nurses, sometimes called parish nurses. These nurses watch over the health and well-being of the congregants through various methods, such as home visiting, health classes, blood pressure clinics, support groups, etc. The next course starts Friday, February 3 and we would love for you to join us!

A little more about the course:

The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course averages about 10 hours of coursework per week. The course is within an online learning environment, and after registering, you will receive detailed instructions and a link to access the course online. The course setting is a virtual classroom, in which you will engage and learn with other nurses. This allows participants to learn from discussion and interaction with one another. There will be readings from electronic materials, videos and PowerPoints, weekly assignments, class discussion, and occasional quizzes. There is no requirement that you be online at certain times of day. The week’s work and materials are available for you to work on at your own pace, only requiring you to meet the assignment deadlines. It is highly recommended that you purchase a copy of the ANA’s Faith Community Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd Ed. It can be ordered from www.nursesbooks.org, or you may find it on Amazon.com. Many resources you need for the course will be available to you online within the course site, but you will need to order a copy of the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Participant Manual. This is also available on Amazon.

Assignments are turned in electronically at the course site. Each week, assignments will be due on Thursday night (by 11:55pm Central Time), with responses to your classmates’ postings due on Saturday night (by 11:55pm Central Time).

Upon completion, participants will receive a Faith Community Nursing pin and a certificate of completion. This continuing nursing education offering was approved by the St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University. The St. David’s School of Nursing at Texas State University is an approved provider of continuing education by the Alabama Board of Nursing, ABNP1544, expiration date 10/28/2023. The greatest profession, for men or women!

Suburban colleges and residents are capitalizing on a growing trend of men entering the nursing profession. As demand for nurses rises with an aging population, area paramedics and guys unsatisfied with their first career are changing professions. And nursing colleges are marketing to them.

Nurses are literally everywhere.

Like Florence Nightingale in the 1800s, the future is calling us to light the way in health care. Our goal: Change the narrative on nursing. Erase misperceptions about what and who we truly are, expand the understanding of the breadth of our growing profession, eliminate notions that come between us...
