Today our Georgetown Rotary Club had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Bethany Giles, Superintendent of Georgetown County School District.

She shared a lot of encouraging information about the progress being made in our schools, along with some very real challenges ahead, including enrollment, funding, staffing, and salaries.

One thing that especially stood out to us was her โ€œwhy.โ€ For her, it is about giving back what was given to her and creating pathways for young people to succeed, whether that pathway is academics, athletics, band, the arts, or another opportunity.

Her word for the year also happens to fit Rotary pretty well: ๐—œ๐— ๐—ฃ๐—”๐—–๐—ง.

It was a good reminder that strong schools are not simply the responsibility of teachers and administrators. They are a community responsibility. The question for all of us is, what kind of impact can we make?

Thank you, Dr. Giles, for sharing with us today and for your commitment to the students, educators, and families of Georgetown County.

Want to be part of making an IMPACT in Georgetown? Rotary brings together people from across our community who believe in Service Above Self and in making a difference right here at home. If you would like to learn more about the Rotary Club of Georgetown, send us a message. We would love to have you join us for a meeting and see what Rotary is all about.

Thank you to Ryan Marsh from FCA for speaking to Georgetown Rotary today!

Ryan shared how FCA is reaching young people across Georgetown County through fishing and outdoor programs. These events create fun, friendly competition while teaching students basic and advanced fishing skills, outdoor safety, sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. Most importantly, they provide opportunities to build relationships and encourage faith in the next generation.

We appreciate Ryan's passion for investing in our youth and making a positive impact in our community. ๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŽฃ๐ŸŽฃ
