Georgetown community member Christina Small wrote a lovely grant proposal as a way to honor Ms. Niehoff and empower students by giving them a voice and making them feel special.

Students are invited to write down a wish beginning with the words, “Someday at school I wish…” — and then we work together to make those wishes come true.

What an incredible way to bring joy, wonder, and connection to our school community, while making sure every student feels heard and seen.

So far students have gotten to enjoy an afternoon of “reading under the stars” in tents in the cafeteria, a real life candyland board game, a basketball game with former GCS students.

To All Georgetown Students (K-12th)
The Georgetown Island Education Foundation (GIEF) is offering a limited number of full and partial scholarships of up to $400 each towards tuition for educational summer camps.
What do we mean by an educational summer camp? Any camp (day camp or sleepaway) that is focused on creating teaching and learning experiences for campers. They can focus on all sorts of things– music, art, creative writing, theater, robotics, science, sailing, foreign language, environmentalism, gymnastics, woodworking and so much more!
If you are wondering if the camp you are looking at qualifies, just email us at [email protected]

• All grant applications are due by 5pm on March 15th
• Decisions will be communicated by the end of March
• You are eligible to apply for a 2026 camp you plan to enroll in or are already enrolled in

This very popular workshop by The Telling Room has been brought to Georgetown Central School for the past several years through GIEF's Elizabeth Sky and John McIlvain Literary Fund.

Students in grades five and six had the pleasure of working with a guest teacher from the Telling Room. They each wrote a descriptive short story and shared them live to a small audience. Thank you to the Georgetown Island Education Foundation for sponsoring this learning event.
