“Hybrid” Meeting*
Thursday, June 4, 7:00** – 8:00 P.M.

Mike Baldwin, MLS, MPA

This is a one-hour seminar on how to stimulate your creativity through techniques derived from neuroscience. It is an oral presentation by Mr. Baldwin, supplemented by PowerPoint images that help explain relevant neuroscience information and illustrate the creativity concepts derived from that information.

The seminar is aimed primarily at writers, but its ideas can be readily applied to any creative activity. All the proposed ideas are simple and natural. No dangerous, expensive, or unethical activities are presented. Participants may ask questions, but will not be subjected to questions or activities of any kind. This seminar is intended to be an interesting, educational, and pleasant experience. It is ideal for adults and teens in your community who want to become more creative and effective writers and thinkers. His seminars have helped many writers to become more creative.

“From Toastmaster, to Yoga Instructor, to Blogger, oh my!”

Many things in our lives come together to shape our personalities. The older we get, the more “shaped” we become. Toastmasters is a speaking club. Toastmasters has helped me shape ideas and get them across verbally. One day, my Toastmasters club challenged me to write a blog. What started as a single blog post to fulfill a Toastmasters project has blossomed into a full-scale writer’s website. As for yoga, it’s really just a “speech” set to movement!

Jackie Hunt is a retired chemist who spent 30 years working for the Dow Chemical Company along the Gulf Coast. Five years ago, she moved to Georgetown to, as she puts it, “get away from the hurricanes and mosquitoes.”

Her passions include health, nutrition, and yoga. Jackie’s interest in nutrition began after she was diagnosed with Celiac disease, which led her to take a closer look at food labels and ingredients. Drawing on her background in chemistry, she enjoys exploring and explaining the complexities of diet and nutrition. This led her to begin writing a health blog, which she has maintained for the last 4 or 5 years.

She leads a nutrition club in Sun City and has been an active member of Toastmasters International for about 10 years, where she has developed her public speaking skills and helped others do the same. In retirement, Jackie has also devoted time to becoming a yoga instructor, combining her interests in health and wellness with a desire to serve her community.

Everyone is welcome! Meetings are appropriate for writers at all levels, from beginner to advanced. Attend two meetings before becoming a member.

“How to Create Your Own Author Website”

In 2025, while writing his first novel, Deadly Reach, Tom Becker developed his own author website, www.tlbecker.net. In this presentation, Tom will share his experiences and learnings to help anyone create their own website.

Tom grew up on a farm near a small town on the edge of the Sandhills region of Nebraska. He loves the wide-open Midwestern plains but couldn’t wait to travel the world. After completing graduate school, he embarked on a global journey, living and working in countries around the world. He currently lives in Georgetown, Texas. When he's not traveling, you might find him helping out at the local community theatre, trying to break par on the local golf course, researching and reading in the library, or working on his writing in his home office

Nonprofit Fair

"Members Linda Thornton, journalist, and Kerry Dashnaw, author, were on hand at Sun City’s Nonprofit Fair to impress on attendees that Writers’ League members are composed of those writing on napkins for years to Emmy nominated writers and everyone in between!"

Tree House Learning Community
"Linda Thornton was invited to speak to the newspaper staff at the Treehouse Learning Community, a part-time enrichment program for homeschoolers in Georgetown.

Linda said her fellow journalists, aged 10 - 14-years old, were wise beyond their years, delivering polished, witty and sophisticated content.

Linda shared some writing tips, answered their thought-provoking questions and said that the students impressed her with their quick thinking during the writing exercise challenge she had created for them. A good time was had by all!"

Write What You Know

Linda LeBlanc is a world traveler and has published five books. Her books reflect an interest in the varying cultures, unique characters, and unusual settings from some of the 75 different countries she has visited.

The Himalayas drew her to Nepal, where she immersed herself in the Sherpa culture. She helped create the first lodge system in Nepal, comprising 18 lodges in the Everest region, and later led treks to the base camp.

Her latest book, Revenge on Ice, is Book 2 of the Sara/Ryker Mysteries. BlueInk, a major review media, gave it a starred review and also named it the best mystery of the year. Kirkus review gave a short, two-word verdict- “Get it”.

Linda will expound on her simple belief of “Write what you know,” and explain how she draws on her experiences and first-hand knowledge of people, places, and events to create her enthralling, factual adventures.
