Rooted Reflection

While this nonprofit chapter is closing, my passion for supporting healing — for both horses and women overcoming abuse — remains deeply alive. I look forward to continuing this work in new, sustainable ways as the next season unfolds.

Although this organization is closing, my commitment to healing work with women and my love for horses continues. I will be exploring new ways to stay involved and serve in the future.

This chapter is ending, but the calling behind it is not. My heart for horses and for women finding their way out of trauma remains strong, and I trust new paths will emerge in the season ahead.

As this nonprofit chapter closes, I will continue offering trauma-informed healing and coaching support through my personal page Rooted for Expansion — walking alongside women ready for their next chapter.

Just as Seasons Change.......

Journey to the Heart Horse Sanctuary was founded to provide rescued horses with a loving home and to offer trauma-informed support to women healing from abuse. This mission was built with compassion, hope, and deep belief in restoration.

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to close the nonprofit effective March 31. While the heart behind this work remains strong, the consistent support and engagement needed to sustain operations has not been available.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported this mission. Your belief, generosity, and encouragement made this journey possible.

Thank you for being part of this chapter.

With gratitude,
Crystal Anna

✨ That’s a Wrap — 2025 at Journey to the Heart Horse Sanctuary ✨

As this year draws to a close, we pause in deep gratitude for every life touched through healing, connection, and hope here at Journey to the Heart.

This year, together we:
Provided safe, faith-centered healing spaces for women overcoming trauma and domestic violence
Walked alongside the rescued sanctuary horses here who taught us about trust, presence, and restoration
Offered trauma-informed care, coaching, and equine-assisted experiences that help hearts mend
Saw lives shift, courage grow, and community deepen in compassion and resilience

Whether you volunteered, donated, lifted a prayer, shared our mission, or simply followed along with us — you mattered in every step of this journey.
Your support helped transform horses who once had no future into gentle teachers — and women who once felt broken into women stepping confidently into new chapters.

We recognize the sacred work of healing — it isn’t always visible, fast, or easy… but it is real. And because of you, it continues.

Here’s to closing this chapter with gratitude, and welcoming the next with faith, courage, and open hearts. 🤍

A Sanctuary Christmas Reflection 🤍

Christmas at the sanctuary is quiet.
There are no crowds—just soft breaths in the cold air, warm hay, steady heartbeats, and lives that feel safe.

Each rescued horse here carries a story of survival.
And every day, without words, they teach us what healing really looks like:
patience, presence, and the power of being met with gentleness instead of force.

This sanctuary also exists for the women we serve—
women healing from abuse and trauma, learning again what safety feels like in their bodies and hearts.
Here, both horses and humans are allowed to rest, to soften, and to be met without expectation or pressure.

This season reminds us that love doesn’t need to be loud to be life-changing.
Sometimes it looks like showing up daily.
Like choosing care over convenience.
Like offering safety to those who once knew only fear.

To everyone who has supported this sanctuary—through donations, prayers, encouragement, or simply believing in this mission—thank you.
You are part of every quiet miracle that happens here.

From our horses and hearts to yours,
may this Christmas bring peace, rest, and the deep knowing that love—when given freely—always multiplies.

Merry Christmas from the Sanctuary 🤍

Thanksgiving Message for the Women Surviving the Unseen Battles

Not every Thanksgiving table feels safe.
Not every holiday memory feels warm.
And for too many women, this season brings a mix of gratitude and grief — hope and heaviness sitting in the same breath.

If you’re walking through abuse, healing from trauma, or trying to hold yourself together in a place that feels anything but peaceful…
I want to speak directly to your heart today.

You are not broken for feeling conflicted.
You are not ungrateful for struggling.
You are not “too sensitive” for the way your body remembers what your mind tries to forget.

You are surviving something most people will never fully understand — and still you rise each morning with a heart that refuses to give up.

Today, your gratitude does not have to be loud or polished:
🤎 It can be the quiet relief of one peaceful breath.
🤎 The courage it took to set one small boundary.
🤎 The whisper in your spirit saying, “I deserve better than this.”
🤎 The tiny spark of hope that refuses to disappear.

If you are spending this holiday navigating fear, confusion, loneliness, or the weight of pretending you're okay…
Know this:

Your worth is intact.
Your story is still unfolding.
And your healing is already in motion — even if today feels messy, heavy, or utterly unclear.

Let this Thanksgiving be a gentle reminder, not a demand:
A reminder that you are allowed to take up space.
Allowed to rest.
Allowed to choose yourself.
Allowed to honor what your heart truly feels.

From my rooted heart to yours —
May you feel even one moment of safety today.
One breath that softens your shoulders.
One truth that strengthens your spirit:

You are not alone.
You are not forgotten.
And you are worthy of a life where your heart is cherished, not harmed.

Wishing you tenderness, protection, and a quiet place inside yourself to land today.

Reflection for Women Healing from Abuse & Emotional Trauma

“You were never hard to love—someone simply failed to show up.”

Emotional abandonment is one of the deepest wounds a woman can carry.
It doesn’t always arrive with yelling, chaos, or obvious harm.
Often, it happens in the quiet moments—the ones where you needed someone to lean in, to care, to stay present with your pain… and they didn’t.

Sometimes the trauma comes in the silence.

It’s the moment someone looks directly at your hurting heart
and chooses distance instead of compassion.
It’s the indifference that tells your nervous system:
You’re on your own.
It’s the dismissal that teaches your emotions:
Your needs are too much.
It’s the lack of presence that whispers to your body:
Don’t expect anyone to stay.

And those lessons sink deep.

Women who have survived emotional abandonment know this wound intimately:
You flinch when someone gets too close.
You apologize for having feelings at all.
You silence your needs because you learned they weren’t safe to share.
You become fiercely independent—but only because no one ever stayed long enough for you to rest.

But here’s the truth you may not have been told:

Your pain matters.
Your emotions are not “too much.”
Your needs are human—not burdens.
You deserve someone who leans in when you ache, not someone who disappears.

Healing begins the moment you stop believing that being ignored means you were unworthy.

You were never difficult, dramatic, or needy.
You were a woman asking—sometimes silently—for connection, comfort, and care.
And you were met with distance.

That was their limitation, not your value.

And now, as you heal, you get to rewrite the story:
You get to rebuild a life where your needs are allowed.
Where your voice is honored.
Where your emotions are safe.
Where connection is possible again—first with yourself, and one day, with those who can meet you with presence instead of absence.

You are not alone.
You are not invisible.
And you are not too much.

You are a woman learning to receive the love, safety, and emotional presence she always deserved.

Root down. Rise up. You deserve to be held, not abandoned.

When Love Begins to Feel Safe Again
(For every woman who’s learning that love can be gentle again.)
After trauma, even kindness can feel confusing.
When someone says they care, part of you might still wait for the storm.
That’s not weakness — it’s your nervous system remembering what wasn’t safe.
Real love, after pain, moves differently.
It doesn’t rush your healing.
It slows down to match your pace.
It asks, “What do you need right now?” instead of assuming it knows.
It doesn’t flinch at your fear — it holds space for it.
It shows up in small, consistent ways that slowly teach your body:
“You’re not in danger anymore.”
One day, you’ll catch yourself breathing easier beside someone,
and realize you didn’t have to earn it.
That’s when you’ll know love has become something you can rest in —
not something you have to survive. 🤍

Rooted Women of Strength | Relearning safety, one experience at a time.

Your Nervous System Doesn’t Need More Time — It Needs New Evidence.

For women who have lived through trauma or abuse, “healing” can start to feel like waiting —
waiting to feel ready, waiting to stop hurting, waiting for the past to lose its grip.

But what if you don’t need more time to heal…
What if what you truly need are new experiences that show your nervous system a different reality?

Experiences where:
Kindness isn’t followed by control.
Safety doesn’t mean silence.
Love doesn’t require shrinking.
Calm doesn’t feel like the pause before the storm.

Healing happens when your body begins to believe what your mind already hopes for —
that safety, peace, and gentleness exist and can last.

So today, instead of asking, “Why am I not healed yet?”
Ask, “Where can I offer my body a new experience of safety today?”

That’s where real change begins — not in time passed,
but in truths embodied.

Journey to the Heart Post

Awareness is only the beginning — survival is a daily battle many still face.

October may be over, but for survivors, the fight doesn’t end when the awareness month does.
Domestic abuse isn’t a single chapter—it’s an ongoing story of survival, rebuilding, and reclaiming peace after years of fear.

For those still living under control, threats, or manipulation, every sunrise is another act of courage.
For those who have left, healing isn’t a straight line—it’s a daily commitment to safety, boundaries, and rediscovering your worth.

Raising awareness matters.
But what matters even more is what happens after.
When the hashtags fade.
When the ribbons are packed away.
When the survivor is still trying to find their footing.

Let’s not just bring awareness once a year—
Let’s bring support, understanding, and safe spaces every day.
Because awareness starts the conversation,
but compassion keeps it alive. 💜
