Today we commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. This marks the historic Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. Commemorative events are taking place globally, with major ceremonies centered in Normandy, France and at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia.

Governor McMaster has signed the Women Veterans Recognition Proclamation. This document states that June 12th will be recognized as Women Veterans Day in South Carolina.

This date marks the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1948, which granted women the right to serve as permanent, regular members of the military.
