Hi Friends - Welcome to Fall! It was cool and windy in the park this morning, but two of our wonderful volunteers came out and took Lil' Bob and Pedro for a walk. It was actually more of a mobile snack, but they loved it. Thank you, Samantha and Kylie for working with the boys this morning.

A little Berry Springs history 🌳

John Berry settled along Berry Creek in 1846, where he built a spring-powered gristmill and later helped organize Williamson County. Today, reminders of that early history remain throughout Berry Springs Park & Preserve, including the Berry family cemetery and an old millstone. (Williamson County, TX)

🌿 BERRY SPRINGS WORKDAY | OCTOBER 12 🌿

Come spend the morning with Friends of Berry Springs helping spruce up the park! We’ll be joined by Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners, and we’d love to have FOBS members join us too.

📅 Monday, October 12
⏰ 9 a.m. – Noon
📍 Tonkawa Pavilion

We’ll meet at 9 a.m. to decide where to start. If we have enough volunteers, we’ll split into smaller groups and focus on:

🌱 Front entrance
🌿 Cemetery area
🦋 Pollinator gardens near the campground
🌼 Observation deck plots near the springs, time and volunteers permitting

Afterward, we’ll reconvene for a potluck lunch at the Tonkawa Pavilion. FOBS will provide plates, napkins and cutlery, so just bring a dish to share!

Bring:
🧤 Your own hand tools
👟 Appropriate work/outdoor clothing
💧 Drinks and snacks
🍽️ A dish for the potluck
🪑 A lawn chair, just in case

If Tonkawa Pavilion is reserved that morning, we’ll find another picnic table or pavilion for lunch.

It’s amazing what a little care can do. ✨

Some of our wooden nature trail signs got a fresh polish with Orange Glo Wood Furniture Polish, and the difference was incredible!

The wood’s natural beauty really came back to life, making the signs easier to read and helping them continue welcoming visitors along the trails.

Wild Fact Wednesday! Did you know some studies show donkeys are able to process the location of an item and remember where it is a short time after they have lost visual contact?

This may sound simple, but it’s evidence that donkeys have the ability to understand that an object exists even when they can’t see it!

Tomorrow is the 1st Day of Summer! Got summer plans? Make sure to come out and see us at Berry Springs Park!

Say hi to our resident donkeys, pack a picnic under the shady oaks, let the kids burn energy on the playground, or take a stroll on our peaceful hiking trails. It’s the perfect spot to slow down and enjoy the day.
