Every winter, our Fire Marshal's Office investigates fires caused by heat lamps. 🔥 While they’re great for keeping pets and livestock warm, they can also be a serious fire hazard if not used correctly.
Keeping your animals warm is important, but heat lamps can be dangerous if not used properly. Protect your animals and property with these essential heat lamp safety tips:
- Fasten heat lamps to a secure structure.
- Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent bumping or tipping
- Heat lamps should not be used in very small spaces. Pets can also get burned if they come into direct contact with the heat source (mainly the bulb).
- Use a heat lamp with a protective cage or guard to prevent pets from getting too close to the bulb.
- Choose a low wattage bulb suitable for the size of the space and your pet.
- Never leave a heat lamp unattended, regularly check the lamp for damage, and turn it off when not needed.
- Ensure the heat lamp is positioned far away from any flammable materials like bedding or curtains.
These steps will help to reduce the risk of fire and keep your pets/animals safe.
