I went by three of the river camps I know of yesterday. They had already been abandoned.

The city council passed the new ordinances regarding panhandling, sitting/laying down, feeding on public property, etc. unanimously. It was a long meeting and everyone who wanted to speak out on these items were heard. Incase you were not aware, council is not required to respond to public comments and rarely does.
Agree or disagree with the outcome, move on and continue to serve. Flaming those who were in opposition to your point only causes more division and alienates those who might be allies in other areas.

I have been addressing homelessness as an issue in Georgetown for many years. The difference of how I address it and most others, I object to enabling and require a level of accountability with those I help.

The current state of enabling, and lack of accountability is what is creating the need for new, codified and enforceable, ordinances. Some of the newer homeless and transients came to Georgetown and, despite being informed, ignored the “unwritten rules.”

Instead they brought the sense of entitlement other cities have allowed and this was reinforced by, people who I am sure mean well… but don’t understand the consequences of their enabling.

By all means wring your hands and wail about injustice and blame the city, police, citizens…

Everyone except those who are most responsible.

The unwritten rules:
Don’t interfere with the businesses.
Don’t make people uncomfortable.

By following these rules, private resources have been available to help, when needed.
