Big ideas start with small steps.

Have you ever had an idea to start or change something but backed off because you’re “just one person?”

Then the next Rise Up discussion is for you!

This Wednesday, Oct 7, we dive into Session 2: The Birth of a Big Idea. We’re talking about how real change actually begins and how God uses everyday students to start big things.

Chapter 1 talked about doing things "most people don't.” That could be as simple as sitting next to someone sitting alone at lunch, turning off your phone an hour early to pray, or encouraging a teacher.

This week, we challenge you to do ONE thing that requires courage or extra effort. Are you willing? Report back in the comments and share your experience!

Last week, we kicked off Chapter one of Do Hard Things and we learned that culture may set the bar low, but God calls us to stand out and live bold.

Take time today to think about how culture misrepresents the importance of the teen years. What is something that might change if teens really believed low expectations were ripping them off?

We asked students Wednesday what they like about Rise Up.

Nobody said the teaching. They said their friends, the games, and the people who know their name.

That's the whole thing. Belonging comes first. Everything else grows out of it.

We want to ask something directly.

80 students have registered for Rise Up since May. That's God moving, and it has moved faster than we planned for. Serving those students the way we want to serve them means two leaders in every small group, and we're building toward a man and a woman leading every grade.

Small group leaders are our greatest need this year, by a wide margin.

You don't need experience. You don't need a ministry background. We train you, we walk with you, and you get the discussion questions and everything else you need before you ever walk in the room. It's two Wednesdays a month.

Here's the idea at the center of it. There's a difference between doing hard things FOR God and doing hard things WITH God. One runs on willpower, and willpower runs out. The other runs on relationship, and relationship doesn't.

We disagree.

On September 16, Rise Up launches the 26-27 year and we are challenging students in grades 6-12 to reject low expectations, step out of their comfort zone, and live bold.
