☀️Meet our April bird of the month, Chica!☀️
Chica is a very sweet Sun Conure who is about 9 years old, and has been with us at the rescue for just over a year now. Chica is friendly with most people, but can be a little shy upon first meeting. We think the main reason Chica has been with us so long is because she’s been overlooked for some of the other very outgoing conures we’ve had come and go since she’s been with us, as it usually takes her a couple of visits with new people before she’s comfortable coming out of her cage. Once she gets to know you she has a fun and goofy personality that is very typical of Sun Conures. Also typical of Sun Conures, she can be very loud, and while she hasn’t had any excessive undesired vocalization here or in her previous home, she wouldn’t be the right fit for someone if loud noise is a concern. She has a lot of cute vocalizations (she says her name, barks like a chihuahua, and mimics a squeaky toy, among others) that can be reinforced to help reduce unwanted ones as well. Chica is quite a good flyer and eagerly participates in training sessions, including recall and targeting. Anyone who has gotten to know her during her time at the rescue would tell you she would make an amazing companion for the right person or family.
