A group of our TCFS Therapists (and friends!) joined NAMI KDK for their Nami Walks 5k over the weekend to raise awareness around mental illness and mental health. What a beautiful day to be outside with our community partners and neighbors!

Therapeutic art inspired by the changing of seasons and diversity of nature. One of our TCFS Art Therapists, Izzie, led staff members in a grounding meditation before we set out outside to gather leaves, petals, and other found objects. Then we came back together to arrange and discuss our processes. You can borrow this idea for yourself (also great for kids of all ages!) by finding a nature-inspired meditation or breathing video on YouTube, going on a walk outside, finding pieces of nature—we suggest only taking what’s already on the ground!—then arranging your treasures into a design or picture that reflects how you are feeling. You don’t even need paper or glue—you can arrange right on the sidewalk or table then let everything blow away later 🍂🍃🍁

Before I became a Lifesaver Ambassador for the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP), I rarely, if ever, talked about mental health with anyone. AFSP cares and recognizes that Indigenous Peoples, among other marginalized communities, deserve to be supported and cared for.

Participants will examine key legal, medical, and statewide defi nitions of abuse, analyze the mechanics of coercive control, and explore trauma-informed care principles to enhance safety, survivor autonomy, and non-judgmental response practices.

KCHD coordinates monthly free and virtual trainings on trending topics in behavioral health. We invite community mental health professionals, social workers, teachers, caregivers, and anyone interested in the topic to join us for expert-led discussions. Spanish interpretation and Illinois LPC, LCPC, LSW, LCSW, MFT, LMFT CEUs provided at every event.

It's that time of the year--help us give thanks and spread joy by "adopting" a TCFS family this Thanksgiving or Winter Holiday!

Client families are recommended by their therapists to receive additional support during the holidays. At Thanksgiving, our donors provide gift cards for holiday meals along with festive table and kitchen items. During the winter holidays, donors help bring joy to clients and their family by fulfilling personalized gift wishes, and assistance with meals.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, 110 clients received Thanksgiving packages and 129 clients received holiday gifts and food cards last year--and the need has continued to grow in 2026.
