New York State Forest Ranger Scholarship Foundation The Forest Ranger Scholarship Foundation is a not for profit organization set up to provide scholarships for children of New York State Forest Rangers.

The money for the foundation comes from donations and sales of foundation items.

The Forest Ranger Scholarship has recently received and approved four applications for scholarships for the coming academic year, totaling $2,000 in financial assistance. The foundation is committed to providing scholarships to the children of Forest Rangers to further their education. Please stay tuned for updates from their academic careers!

Elianna Bodnar, daughter of Forest Ranger Mike Bodnar, received a scholarship this fall and is attending SUNY Cortland. She is a Sophmore this year, and is majoring in International Affairs, with a concentration in Cultural Development, as well as a second major in French.

Elianna is in the Model European Union Club, which allows her to attend simulations to represent different nations in the Union, and debate over how to fix certain issues within Europe. This year, she is representing Romania, and she says she is very excited!

Last year, she studied Art and Social Movements abroad in Indonesia, and she says it was the most amazing experience in the world. She met so many wonderful people and had a chance to experience things she never thought she'd be able to. Elianna says, "It's a beautiful country and I will never forget it.".

Emily Coscomb, daughter of Forest Ranger Bob Coscomb, received a scholarship to attend Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. She's a Junior Biology major, and plans to graduate in the spring of 2018. This is Emily's first year on the Equestrian Team. Good Luck Emily!

Zachary Coscomb, son of Forest Ranger Bob Coscomb, received a scholarship to attend Kueka college in Kueka Park, NY. He is majoring in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Pre Law, and plans to graduate in 2018. Zachary is a Resident Assistant, and also participates in the adventure club, and intramural soccer and volleyball. Good Luck Zach!

NYS Forest Ranger Jim Delaire was a graduate of Glens Falls High School, and a 1967 graduate of the NYS Ranger School at Wanakena. Jim became a NYS Forest Ranger on January 18th, 1968. Jim lived and served in Washington County, additionally serving as the Council 82 union president. During the summer of 1987, while working on the "Umpqua Fire" in Oregon, Jim suffered the complications of a brain tumor, which led to his death on June 23rd, 1988. Jim was 41 years old. Shortly thereafter, The Jim Delaire scholarship was formed by fellow Rangers. In 2001, the name was changed to The Forest Ranger Scholarship Foundation, as required by legal "not for profit" regulations.
