Tomorrow - Friday, June 19th is Juneteenth. One of the oldest celebrated days in the United States, the Juneteenth date is now widely recognized in the American consciousness as we revisit our nation’s history. Juneteenth was proclaimed a federal holiday and became an official Illinois holiday in June 2021.

Juneteenth commemorates the official emancipation of enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, and is a federal holiday in the United States. It marks the end of slavery in the U.S. Unfortunately, we are still fighting for equal rights for everyone, so we need to keep working together until the rights we all deserve exist for all of us.

Juneteenth is a time to celebrate freedom, honor resilience, and reflect on our shared history. We're sharing some spaces and places where you can learn more, celebrate, and engage with your community.

Celebrate love, diversity, and equality at DeKalb Pride Fest 2026 this Saturday, June 20th from 4-7 pm. Stop by and say hi to PFLAG Geneva/Tri-Cities, pick up some pride swag and resources.

Calling all dads of LGBTQ+ kids! Our PFLAG Connects: Dad Community offers free virtual meetings led by skilled facilitators (many of them dads themselves) who guide attendees in receiving support, giving support, and finding resources to help their loved ones, families, and communities. Every meeting also includes a breakout room especially for dads of transgender and gender-diverse kids of all ages.
“Being part of a support group is deeply therapeutic, incredibly valuable, and important. It helps us understand that we are not alone on this journey—that others are facing similar challenges and that we can learn from their experiences. It also plays a crucial role in educating us about this new reality for those of us who are parents of someone with different preferences. These one-hour meetings take place on the third Tuesday of every month at 8pm ET/5pm PT, with our next meeting scheduled for June 16.
