Happy Pride! We at the Geneva Historical Society would like to take this opportunity to show our support for those in the q***r community in Geneva and beyond. After surveying our collections in 2019-2020, it has become clear that the Historical Society archives are severely lacking in LGBTQIA+ history. We understand each journey is a personal one and we'll be here to help preserve your story when you're ready.

If you have questions about how we care for our collection, or how to contribute to our collection, please don't hesitate to contact our Archivist, Becky Chapin, at [email protected].

Kameny—who coined the "Gay Is Good" slogan after being inspired by the "Black Is Beautiful" cultural movement—was among the first to recognize that progress for LGBTQ Americans was impossible as long as the medical establishment classified homosexuality as a mental illness.
