Bill Cook Foundation

Bill Cook Foundation The Bill Cook Foundation seeks to help some of the world’s poorest children to get the best education possible.

Thus, the Foundation supports education from basic literacy and vocational schooling through university education. In general, it hopes to fund tuition and other direct expenses for children. However, it recognizes that there may also be a need for providing housing and food in some instances. The Foundation works in some of the world’s poorest countries and with the most disadvantaged children in

cluding orphans, refugees, and victims of discrimination. It supports projects where relatively small amounts of money can do great good. At present, the Foundation is seeking funds for projects for children in Papua New Guinea, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Ethiopia, and Kenya and hopes to expand to other countries in Africa and in Central America and wherever there is great need.

These photos show graduates from the School of Angels Sofia who completed university in Kenya this year. Mary, Angela, and Alex were supported by the Bill Cook Foundation, made possible by people like you.

Just look at them, and the pride of their families. The joy. The confidence. The futures ahead. As Fr. Chris shared with us, “You brought light to the families.”

That’s what education can do. Thank you for helping make this possible. If you’d like to support more students on this journey, you can give here: billcookfoundation.org/donate/

This is what the Bill Cook Foundation is all about. Here a Rohingya refugee from Myanmar, in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, speaking English because of the Foundation's support of education there.

I received some photos today from my trip to Uganda in February. If you know me, these are among my greatest joys--hugging kids and ordering new shirts.

Picture it: A bleak late December day in Central Indiana, 1943. A soldier gets a leave from Fort Knox to come to Indianapolis for the birth of his first (and only) child.
December 27, 1943, 4:25PM: Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. The Doctor comes out to tell the soldier that his son is an albino. Fortunately, when the baby opened his eyes, they were baby blue.
They named the baby William for his father and Robert for his paternal grandfather.
Six weeks later, the soldier boards a ship for Burma, where he will send little Bill a Teddy Bear for his first birthday but will not return to Indiana until after the Japanese surrender.
Well, little Billy celebrates 80 years of life on December 27, 2023
Please, if you are in the neighborhood, come by 3 Oak Street in Geneseo, NY to help Bill enter his 9th decade of life colorfully but tastefully. Any time between 12:30 and 8:00. There will be food and good conversation and a few exaggerations in storytelling about Bill’s ancient history. I encourage you to pass on this invitation to anyone Bill knows who is not on Facebook. Let him know if you plan to come so he can have some idea of how much food to prepare. He do not need a formal RSVP, so last minute changes of plans are fine.
No wrapped gifts. If you feel so inclined—and you should be--bring the gift of a donation to the Bill Cook Foundation. If necessary, you can park the Brinks truck in Bill’s driveway.
NB: This is NOT a surprise party, so tell one, tell all.

Charlene Swankie plays herself in the terrific Academy Award-winning film, 'Nomadland'. She also happened to be Bill Cook’s classmate at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. When she learned about the Bill Cook Foundation’s need for money to help complete the first all-girls high school in South Sudan, Swankie stepped up. Thank you Democrat and Chronicle for picking up this inspiring story of classmates reunited to support girls education in Africa.

Charlene Swankie plays herself in the Oscar-winning film about Americans living a nomadic lifestyle. Her paycheck ended up supporting a worthy cause.
