Fair Trade Club at SUNY Geneseo A group of people committed to integrating fair trade practices on campus at SUNY Geneseo. Help us earn Fair Trade University Status! We're almost there!

"Fair trade" means that the artisan or farmer who made or grew the product you are purchasing was guaranteed a fair wage for their work. They were granted safe working conditions and a brighter future. When buying fair trade products you can be confident that no child labor was used - giving children a chance to receive an education instead of being forced to work to provide for their family. Fair

trade is a transparent way of doing business - but more importantly, it is a fair, sustainable, and ethical way of doing business. Join the movement with confidence and pride. One of SUNY Geneseo's seven stated values is to promote "...the development of ethical citizens." To be an ethical citizen, one must realize the importance in fair business practices. SUNY Geneseo is also committed to working together "...to develop socially responsible citizens..." If we can stand by products that we consume daily (coffee, tea, sugar, bananas, chocolate) with confidence, we have become just that - a socially responsible citizen.

News: Summer got a plant, she named it Ronald.

FT Updates: Last semester, Fair Trade Club & Spanish Club donated the profits of our Cultural Dinner event ($833) to Mayan Hands Education Foundation. They sent us a very nice Thank You letter. We'll post a copy of the letter soon so you can read it!

FT News: Anything made with espresso at Dunkin Donuts - lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, etc. are made with Fair Trade coffee beans! - see picture

FT Fun: barkTHINS are made with Fair Trade chocolate and as Ben puts it "They are SOOO GOODD!" - the almond one in particular

Challenges for this week:
Look for a Fair Trade item in a store you already shop in (like Wegmans)!
Teach at least ONE person what Fair Trade is all about!
Disperse the Fair Trade "For A Better World" magazines around campus.

Let's have Books & Bytes put out the Fair Trade sign and sleeves for their coffee - see picture.

Oh my gosh, this Alter Ego Mini Dark Noir Organic Fair Trade Chocolate was delicious - see picture.

Who did the challenge?! Teach one new person about Fair Trade.
~ Emily bought Ben & Jerrys ice cream because it’s Fair Trade. (They will soon have a dairy-free option! Also check out Luna and Larry's for a Fair Trade Dairy Free Ice Cream option.)
~ Maydelis has a FT sticker on her water bottle - then people ask!

We will have elephant dung paper in a rainbow of colors to print beautiful cards, or bring your own tshirt/pillowcase/etc.
