Dr. Luke Brake
C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy and the Contemporary UFO
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” Hamlet by Shakespear. Dr, Brake chairs the Language and Literature Department at Sterling College and as s a representative of the college’s C.S. Lewis Center, Dr. Brake suggests that Lewis, too, can join with Hamlet and the UAP community in saying that there is more in heaven and earth than we dream of. Who doesn’t know the Chronicles of Narnia? Lewis’s writings are impressively diverse,
Lesser-known works include a trilogy of Science Fiction texts called the “Space Trilogy” or the “Ransom Trilogy” or the “Deep Heaven” trilogy, spanning from 1938-1945. These texts, while less read than Narnia, demonstrate a vision for extraterrestrial life that was shockingly unique for the time.
Lewis doesn’t get this idea out of thin air but believed deeply in a philosophy that the universe has an order, and that order is oriented toward Goodness.
