🐝🥳 We're opening a brand new trailhead onto Island Preserve from Steeplechase Drive in Geneseo, and we want you to be part of it! This trailhead doubles as a native pollinator garden, a living demonstration of how beautiful and impactful planting for pollinators can be.

Our staff will share why pollinators matter, how pesticides affect them, and how you can make a difference in your own backyard. Every attendee goes home with a wildflower starter kit and materials to design your own native garden!

We'll also be joined by students from Geneseo Central School District, bringing their classroom pollinator learning to life. Free bee boxes, bird boxes, and pinecone bird feeders will be available while supplies last.

Free and open to the public. All ages welcome!

📅 Mon, Jun 22
⏰ 1:00 - 3:00 pm
📍 Island Preserve Steeplechase Trailhead (82 Steeplechase, Geneseo, NY 14454)

🌟 FELLOWSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Erin Riedel 🌟

Meet Erin, our GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Fellow! Erin is bringing her geospatial skills to her work with the Conservancy, where she is applying her GIS training to support land preservation and conservation efforts. She is currently pursuing a GIS Certificate at Monroe Community College and plans to continue her studies at SUNY Geneseo in the fall.

Erin brings a background in the arts and a deep love for the outdoors. She is an avid birder, traveler, and explorer of public parks and green spaces — and a mom and dog owner with a growing passion for land preservation and conservation.

"The Conservancy has given me a chance to be useful to my community and another shot at a different path. It has solidified my desire to work in land conservation and made a future that once felt out of reach feel possible," Erin said.

Internships and fellowships like Erin's are made possible by the generous support of our donors. Investing in the next generation of conservation leaders directly advances our mission — and you can be a part of it. To learn more about how you can make experiences like this possible for students like Erin, reach out to our Development Director, John, at 585-243-2190, or send us a DM!

WE DID IT! 🎉🌳

Dozens of volunteers showed up and showed out for not one, but TWO Earth Week events! Some got their hands dirty potting trees right here at our office, while others headed out to Island Preserve to plant a whole new batch in the ground.

We're so grateful for every single one of you! 🙌🌱

🌍 Happy Earth Day! Today we're celebrating the land that makes this region so special, like the rolling farmland, quiet forests, rushing streams, and open meadows that define the Genesee Valley.

Over the years, we've worked alongside landowners, farmers, and communities to permanently protect thousands of acres of habitat, open space, and working farmland right here in our backyard. These aren't just beautiful places — they're home to wildlife, sources of clean water, and the farms that feed our neighbors.

This Earth Day, we're grateful for every acre protected, every easement signed, and every person who believes this landscape is worth saving.
