“Our relationships with customers extend beyond simply making them lattes. We’ve been able to witness the generosity, warmness, creativity, and talents of the community first hand. Before Covid closures and current social distancing and take-out menu options, we were scheduling artists and musicians to perform on weekends. During one open mic session, a customer surprised us with her beautiful singing voice - it was so lovely!

MacFadden’s is a place where people can relax, drink coffee, carry on conversations, and enjoy the arts. We love watching people of the community come together in this traditional coffee house, and it is our goal to continue providing them with this environment. Although owning a business affects the whole family and balancing time and work stress is a learning curve, through it, we’ve built a strong business network of people we respect and admire.

I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and my husband grew up in Brooklyn and Long Island. We spent many summers in the Finger Lakes and tried to relocate on numerous occasions. In 2015, George received a Poets and Writer’s grant, which he used to collaborate with the Dansville ArtWorks center to host events. Last summer, we saw a sign on the door of MacFadden’s and thought it would be a great opportunity to own a business and be part of the Dansville community - now that we own MacFadden’s, we can collaborate with other businesses in the area as well as local artists and writers.

We are set up for safety and can provide comfy seating options while you wait. We have adapted our food and drink menus to accommodate customer needs and to add a little flare to the experience!”
Located at 211 Main Street Dansville, MacFadden Coffee Co. is a place where the local community comes together to create something beautiful. Owned by Denise Scannell Guida, they have been in business for over a year. Stop by to grab a nice cup of coffee and a sweet treat!

“I remember a college student once saying, ‘I can’t come here and not be happy’ and I feel the same way! Eleven years in business and it feels like one minute! Meeting new people from the local community is always something I look forward to and I love watching them smile as they step foot into the boutique. People lose all sense of time here in this whimsical treasure chest known as Alley Cat Purrfect Price!

You never know what you’ll find inside, it could be: Venetian Masks, Flapper Dresses, Bohemian, Vintage, Funky Sunglasses, or even Formalwear! It could be Crystals, Tiffany Lamps, Lingerie or Jewelry! If it’s unique it’s a bargain and you will find it here! Not to mention, everything is sold at the Purrfect Price. Adventures and discoveries await you in every corner of the boutique and I always have music playing, so make sure you leave plenty of time - you will want to stay longer. Meow!”

"little Lake Brewing perfectly fits my vision of the small business I’ve always wanted. Little is the maiden name of my late mother and the lower case “L” in the name is used intentionally to emphasize the shop size. I often receive feedback to expand the shop but the small space is exactly what I want - it’s a perfect size to showcase my hobbies of coffee roasting and beer brewing.

Through this business, I’ve gotten to know so many regular, local customers and I love sharing my craft with them. Motivated by the power of a positive environment, I am reminded that there’s really no such thing as a bad day! Some memories stand out and encourage me to provide a cozy atmosphere for customers. My favorite is of an older couple that had been coming to the shop to meet for coffee and conversation. After a while, I found out that they were courting all that time and now they are engaged to be married!

I’ve lived in the Conesus Lake area my whole life. Even after all this time, I decided to stay in this area to be close to my family as well as my wife’s family. Working my way through college in a former well-known lakeside prime rib restaurant, I later had a few
other entrepreneurial adventures such as cooking for numerous rock bands; the Grateful Dead, Cher, Toby Keith, and Harry Connick Jr., to name a few.

I started this business because I had been semi-retired from my 32+ year career in food service and wanted an avenue to showcase my craft of coffee roasting and beer brewing. I took the opportunity to secure the lease of the location right when it became available and have been loving the experience ever since. Watching customers enjoy our calm atmosphere and unwinding themselves truly makes me happy."

“We are a team, a family, and so is every other Christmas tree farm in the area - our one common competition is the fake tree! Since 1968 we’ve had three generations working the farm. Since the late 1970’s over 100 young people have worked alongside our family from the first of April through the middle of December. Through trial and error and learning from other tree growers and professionals, we have found efficient ways of providing high quality trees, and our loyal customers who know this visit our farm yearly to take home a beautiful fir tree for their family’s Christmas celebration. Operating a Christmas tree farm is a risky business; we never know when there will be a change in weather, a break-down in equipment, or labor shortage and we need to be prepared for a disaster. Much goes into nurturing one tree, seven to twelve years on average, but that is the beautiful part of it all.

Keeping the w**ds cut down at the tree base; cutting off the lowest whorl of branches so people can see a single straight trunk; fertilizing, shearing, and preventing disease and insect infestation. We do this by using mechanical w**d control methods to lower dependency on chemicals and only spraying for insects when needed using Cornell Cooperative Extension Integrated Pest Management practices that are environmentally friendly.

Sometimes, people are afraid or worried about buying trees from farms using harsh and harmful chemicals. If you’re one of those people, you can be comforted by knowing we’ve received a Cornell IPM Award and a Livingston County Earth Day Award for using methods that prevent insect infestation and disease with formulas low on chemicals. We’ve been using these practices on the farm for over 30 years now. So the next time you stop by our farm, all you need to focus on is finding the perfect tree!

My daughter Jerrianne, her husband, and my two grandchildren all help out with the business. I think my daughter and I make a great team. While I do the inside work like making lunch for the crew, bookkeeping and writing contracts, Jerrianne does the outside work, just like her father did. During his final days, my late husband had told us to give up on the farm, saying things like, “Just sell everything. Sell the equipment. You don’t need to be in the farming business.” But we knew he loved the farm and that, in reality, he wanted it to prosper - so we continued. Besides, we love what we do and our loyal customers depend on us.”
Katherine Humphrey owns All Western Evergreen Nursery & Christmas Tree Farm located on Liberty Pole Rd in Springwater, NY. The farm has been run by the William Humphrey family for over 50 years! Katherine, Jerrianne, and the crew look forward to seeing you and your family and helping you select the perfect Christmas tree this year!

“One of the greatest feelings is seeing people who have never climbed before start their first route, land a move after a few attempts, and experience the exhilaration that comes when they complete their first route. I get to experience this almost every day at Sunrise!

Growing up in Geneseo, I spent the majority of my life in the Genesee Valley, and connect with it on a deep level. I watched both of my parents own and operate businesses including Sundance Books, Sweet Briar Celebrations, Radiance Spa, Valley School of Dance, and Shakti Yoga, and it was my dream to follow in their footsteps. I ended up pursuing a career in Recreation and Sport Management as well as Health and Physical Education, and after a short time downstate working for the New York Mets and a local special events company, I moved back to the area to pursue my dream as an entrepreneur.

Winning the Livingston County Economic Development Dream-O-Vate contest in 2019 initially kick-started the business, and I am thrilled to share what I love with others.

We are the first and only climbing gym in Livingston County; our climbers indulge in high-end products and high-end bouldering routes. We opened our doors during the Pandemic and had our ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 26th. We’ve overcome many obstacles, but just like trying a new route in bouldering, we keep reaching for the next goal - we’ll be there when you decide to take your next leap of faith.”
Jacob Caplan is the owner of Sunrise Bouldering. You can find Sunrise Bouldering right off the SUNY Geneseo Campus at 2 School Street in Geneseo, NY. Booking is by appointment only and 15-20 people max are allowed in the facility at a time. Safety measures are put in place to ensure safety and comfort to customers. “Cider making is truly my passion. I graduated from The Institute of Culinary Education in NYC and studied at Taillevent in Paris, France. After that, I worked at many restaurants in NYC and taught at New York Wine & Culinary Center in Canandaigua. I was already interested in craft brewing so putting that all together made me get really into cider making. It all started with making cider in carboys. We learned about the ins and outs of cider making along the way - such an experience. We used to say 'a carboy and a dream' but now we bang out 1000 gallon batches at a time! My homie, Proff, is my right hand when it comes to making great tasting cider. The whole team works together to come up with flavor concepts and we make it a reality in the back. Currently, we’re coming up with new flavors and merch that we can’t wait to share with our customers. We’re working on expanding with a super cool tasting room that’s bigger so we can bring back bands and also a pool table and some other fun games! Stay safe everyone! "

“My official title is ‘Premise Manager’ but I prefer to think of myself as the ‘Ambassador of Good Vibrations.’

I was raised in Wayland, NY, and am the proud mom of my son, Jacob, who just turned 21. I am an advocate of self-sufficient living and O-Neh-Da & Eagle Crest Vineyards has provided me with an opportunity to own and grow my own business.

O-Neh-Da is the third-oldest winery in America and the oldest winery devoted to making natural, pure grape sacramental wines. There is so much history behind this business. The winery was founded by Bishop McQuaid at the close of the Civil War to make natural, pure grape wine for Catholic Mass. A few years ago, the winery was chosen by Pope Francis to be the official wine for the Pope’s tour of the USA. Among many awards and medals we have won over the years, winning the World Riesling Championship for our 2009 Dry Riesling was quite an honor. We proudly continue our tradition of making Finger Lakes wines that are natural, wild-fermented, and pure. 100% solar-powered producing premium wines using only the best grapes grown in the Finger Lakes.

The renowned Hermann J. Wiemer, the founding winemaker for Bully Hill and founder of Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyards, stopped by on Memorial Day 2015 to check out his old stomping grounds. Unbeknownst to many Finger Lakes wine lovers, O-Neh-Da was the place where Hermann began his American winemaking and viticulture career. We remain grateful for all the visitors who seek out the winery in the pristine hillside of Hemlock Lake to discover our premium wines made with love. My partner, Will, is our Vintner and Brand Manager and Chief Wine Appreciator. Together we are doing the work of 100 monks!

PureWineOnline.com is our online business and we were one of the first Finger Lakes wineries to offer free shipping with no minimum purchase required. We are open Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 6 pm in the Tasting Room and provide curbside pickup services other times.”

O-Neh-Da & Eagle Crest Vineyards, Hemlock Lake, New York is the third oldest premium winery in all of America and has been in business since 1872 – that’s 148 years and counting! Lisa Woodhams is the “go-to” person for anything and everything at the winery. Located just 30 minutes from Rochester at 7107 Vineyard Road in Conesus, O-Neh-Da is the perfect place for a weekend retreat.

“I've always loved decorating and combining eclectic items to make a house a home. Pastique is my way of being able to enjoy the pleasure of helping others find the perfect items for their own home, whether it's in my shop or something I can help you find. My goal is to offer a small-town shopping experience that meets your home décor and gift-giving needs.

Pastique opened in May of 2018. Around the same time, Kelly Kozak, a Cal-Mum graduate and longtime resident of Caledonia, was planning to open her home décor boutique in Avon, ace + oak. I went to her grand opening and we hit it off very well. We both share similar visions and the goal to provide unique, practical, and affordable items. When we saw the opportunity to merge our businesses in October of 2019, we jumped right on it. Now when you shop at Pastique, you’ll see Kelly with her wonderful contributions, seamlessly put together in the most beautiful displays. I am very grateful for this partnership, as it has allowed us both to take some time off, learn from each other, and build a special friendship.”
Pastique is a charming home decor shop & gift boutique located on Main Street in the beautiful village of Caledonia (3123 Main Street, Caledonia, NY). They have been in business for 2 years. The 1893 structure has been brought back to life with exposed brick and original wood flooring serving as the backdrop to a unique and friendly shopping experience. They offer an array of items including new and upcycled furniture, wall art, bath and beauty items, jewelry, and great gifts. The village of Caledonia is filled with antique shops, wonderful restaurants, and a feeling of home. Hop on over to Caledonia this Friday as most of the shops stay open until 8pm on the first Friday of each month to complement The Village Gallery's art openings. Or you can shop Pastique any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM.

“Justin and I met when we were both still in college - we met at the Idle Hour. We got married in 2002 and had our reception in the building that now houses our brewery! We have three children ages 15, 13, 11- they are the 5th generation of Grants on our family farm. Owning this business has allowed us to spend some quality time with our kids as they help around the brewery often - we couldn’t be happier.

We are proud to be the first operating brewery in Livingston County. It all started with us traveling to and visiting other breweries. Seeing the content and satisfaction in people’s eyes made us determined to start up our own brewery right in our backyard. Although there are many challenges in owning a business, the positives far outweigh the negatives- it’s truly all about the people. Our family, staff, neighbors, friends, community - it’s an amazing network of human connections and we couldn’t do it without the support of everyone involved. We are grateful to be linked with such wonderful people through a love of craft beer for these past four years.

We invite customers to visit the farm to experience our fresh craft brews made with at least 60% NYS grown ingredients, including the hops we grow ourselves! Inspired by the people we meet and the beauty of our rural setting, we hope to continue to share our special spot with many more locals and visitors.”
Heather and Justin Grant are the owners of Dublin Corners Farm Brewery, located at 1906 Main Street in Linwood, NY and Dublin Corners Tap Room, located at 116 Main Street in Geneseo, NY. Both locations offer tastings, outdoor seating, and curbside pickup. They will be celebrating their 4th anniversary this weekend at their 4th Annual Boos & Brews event so stop in and say hello!

“Starting this business was truly a leap in faith as neither of us had restaurant or hotel experience! My husband, Jim, and I both understood the importance of the Avon Inn and what it meant for the community. When we’d occasionally go to the Inn for dinner, we talked about how nice it would be to own something like it - we didn’t think our wish would come true so quickly. When we heard that the Inn was for sale after the former owner retired, we knew that we wanted to be the ones maintaining and preserving the place - so we did just that. Jim spent 22 months renovating the building - we have some very fond memories attached to the Inn. Jim’s first job as a dishwasher was here as well as his first apartment and I had my bridal shower here. We hosted our rehearsal dinner here and even spent our wedding night at this Inn! I reminisce on our wedding day and how amazing it was when I get to work with new brides and it encourages Jim and me to give the brides, grooms, and their families the best day of their lives. We take our customer’s experience at the Avon Inn very seriously and personally and have made great connections within the community. We couldn't do it all without the great people that work for us! We were fortunate to hire an experienced Executive Chef , Dave Vattimo prior to opening. Our staff works tirelessly sacrificing weekends and holidays to keep us going.

Jim is a native of Avon and I grew up in Henrietta. We’ve been married for seven years and are proud pet parents to our dogs, Buddy and Jasper. In our time off, we enjoy relaxing in the countryside with our dogs and chickens. Jim and I are both super passionate about great customer service and are thrilled to be a part of people’s events and nights out - some memories that will stick for a lifetime. We were named the New York State Hospitality Associations B&B/Inn of Distinction for 2019 – a huge honor, especially after being open such a short time. Our restaurant is open Tuesday thru Saturday for dine-in or takeout and we offer 14 Boutique-style hotel rooms that are great for a staycation!”
Avon Inn, currently owned by Jennifer and Jim Krause, has been back in business for almost three years now. It is located at 55 East Main Street Avon, NY. The building itself has been standing since the 1840s and is a centerpiece for the Town and Village of Avon. You can make reservations on their website: https://avoninnny.com.
