BASF leaders from our Geismar site rolled up their sleeves and partnered with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank and Ascension Parish Public Schools to support a special holiday food distribution for local families.

Together, we helped provide essential staples — and a little extra holiday joy — to 300 families.

Ascension Parish Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) Christmas luncheon.

It was indeed a treat to have LCA President & CEO, David Cresson, delivered an outstanding presentation on the Louisiana Chemical Association’s newly launched Health Facts website. This powerful tool provides transparent, accessible health data for Louisiana, with a special focus on the industrial corridor.

CAER Chairman James E. LeBlanc gave out several 2025 CAER Awards for ongoing work and partnership in supporting safety, security, emergency response, transparency, and community engagement across our Industrial region.

Ascension Parish Emergency Response Teams participate in Haz-Mat Drill at NOVA Chemical Facility in Ascension Parish.

Local Emergency Response Teams from Ascension Parish Fire Dist. #1, CAER Team, APSO Haz-Mat Team and the Ascension Parish IMAG Team and members of the NOVA ERT Team at the Geismar Facility participated in a Table-Top Haz-Mat Drill at the NOVA Facility in Ascension Parish, stated CAER Chairman James E. LeBlanc.

“These types of training scenarios give our emergency responders a hands-on learning experience as close to real life as possible,” LeBlanc stated in a statement about the table-top drill. “Many lessons were learned, along with building a better relationship with our Industry Partners and assets available to us when needed.”

As part of the exercise, members of Ascension Parish Emergency Response Teams learned about all the chemicals manufactured, stored and shipped at the facility, and what equipment will be needed to respond to the area when needed, stated LeBlanc.

These tabletop exercises are intended to provide an opportunity for our local emergency response teams to test their ability to respond to hazardous materials (HazMat) incidents. The exercises provide the opportunity to identify the response and coordination issues that could arise during a variety of hazardous materials scenarios and make the decisions to resolve those issues, stated CAER Chairman and Ascension Parish Government Governmental Affairs Director James E. LeBlanc.

Ascension Parish Emergency Response Teams would like to thank NOVA Chemicals Geismar Team and the entire staff at the NOVA Chemicals Geismar Facility for the community invite to participate in the table-top drill.

Protecting the residents of Ascension Parish is always our #1 goal.

Out East Ascension Rotary annual New Member Project is about more than support our club — it’s about putting Service Above Self into action while raising funds for a meaningful cause in our community.

This year, our new members chose a project that truly helps save lives. Through their efforts, East Ascension Rotary was proud to donate an AED to the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department, providing a critical, life-saving tool for first responders and the community they serve.

We were honored to welcome St. Amant Volunteer Fire Chief James E. LeBlanc to our meeting this week to officially accept the donation on behalf of his department.

Projects like this are why Rotary matters — neighbors helping neighbors, and making a lasting impact where it counts most.
