Today marks A 25 YEAR MILESTONE for our leader & friend, Brad Jensen, who joined Huron Pines in 2001 and continues to champion major conservation initiatives as our Executive Director.
Brad's leadership has led to 400 projects totaling $55 million in investments across Northern Michigan. During his tenure, Huron Pines has removed 8 dams and restored 150 road/stream crossings to reconnect our rivers & streams. Thousands of acres of wild lands are now in public hands as part of the Pigeon River Country State Forest, and another 2,200 acres are open to explore as Huron Pines nature preserves showcasing some of the best Michigan has to offer. (We've got another one in the works right now, so stay tuned ...)
Brad understands successful projects need people who appreciate the importance of conservation and commit their time and energy to it. Our Huron Pines AmeriCorps and seasonal stewardship programs helped launch nearly 400 careers, many of whom continue to serve important conservation roles throughout Michigan and the Midwest. Brad travels the state to build relationships with local leaders and explore new ways to conserve and protect our shared natural resources together. Countless volunteers have given their time to on-the-ground projects that he inspired and they made happen.
We've grown a lot since 2001, from four staff to a team of 20, all working to meet the needs of communities we serve. Brad's a humble guy who puts his trust in those he's brought together to get it done -- that's us, and we love what we do.
Brad likes canoe trips in quiet places. At staff gatherings he's bound to wander into the woods on a whim. When it's time for work, he's on it.
Here's to Brad on this landmark occasion. Congratulations!
