It’s Bocce Season! 🔴🟢

What is Bocce?
Bocce is a ball sport where players take turns rolling a larger ball (bocce balls) to get as close as possible to a smaller target ball called the pallina. The game is played on a grass or turf court and is suitable for all ages and skill levels.

Who can play?
•Both children and adults ages 6+ (8+ to compete) with no upper age limit.
•IDD or similar global developmental delay, including autism of all levels. Physical modifications and 1/2 court play available.
•Completed athlete registration at sotx.org under Become An Athlete tab.

What is the cost?
Thanks to our generous community, there is no cost to join, practice or compete at area or regional level. Please note: transportation is not provided.

I don’t reside in Gatesville, can I still join Team Gatesville?
Yes! We welcome qualifying children and adult athletes from Coryell and Hamilton Counties and all surrounding areas.

Athletes of other Area 12 Special Olympics Texas delegations are welcome to participate in TG sports, that are not otherwise available.

What are the benefits of joining Special Olympics?
SOTX provides numerous benefits, including improved physical fitness, enhanced social skills and increased self-confidence. It fosters a sense of community and inclusion, helping break down barriers and promote acceptance in society.

Parents:
As practice is inside the walking trail, please bring chairs if you wish to sit. Athletes should bring water, wear sunscreen and a hat.

Parents of minor children MUST stay for the entire practice. No restrooms available.

Last swimming practice, Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Gatesville City Pool, 6:00-7:30 pm. We have reserved the pool for a quiet, safe environment. No charge for athletes and their families. Come have some fun!

Area 12 Swimming Competition, Saturday, September 12, 2026. Time TBD, Armed Forces YMCA, Harker Heights

BOCCE
Area 12 Bocce Competition, Saturday, October 24, 2026. Heritage Country Church, Salado.

Bocce practice schedule will be released soon. Generally, Thursday evenings starting mid August (depending on heat index), September and through mid October.
Grassy area inside the walking trail, Faunt LeRoy Park, Gatesville.

BOWLING
Area 12 Bowling Competition, Saturday, tentatively November 14, Bowlero, Waco

Practice schedule TBD. Independent practice allowed; game score submission required.

Team Gatesville Special Olympics extends our utmost gratitude for the kindness and generosity our community has shown us. Thank you so much for supporting our bake sale today.

Your generosity makes it possible for our athletes to participate in five sports, compete in events throughout the year, and enjoy social activities with their peers — all at no cost to them or their families.

Thank you for helping our athletes achieve their goals. We appreciate each and every one of you!

TEAM GATESVILLE SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2026 SWIMMING SCHEDULE 🏊‍♂️ 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🏊🏾‍♂️

Swim events offered include standard swims, flotation (life jacket), kickboard, assisted swim and a water walk.

Requirements:
Athletes must be ages 6+ (no upper age limit), have a ID or equivalent developmental delay and have a current athlete registration packet on file to participate. Packets are available and may be completed at first practice.

Practices:
Team Gatesville practices are on the following Wednesdays: June 17 and July 29 from 6-7:30 pm, Gatesville City Pool.

We have reserved the pool, so this will be a quiet, controlled environment. No cost for TG athletes & their immediate family/caregivers.

Special Needs swimming lessons are offered regularly throughout the year through City of Temple, $70 per participant. Please see City of Temple website for more information, Special Needs swimming lessons:

Independent, recreational swimming during the summer months is highly encouraged. Please ensure all safety precautions are met before swimming.

Other information:
-Females-must wear a one piece bathing suit. No bikinis. No jewelry allowed, unless medical alert items.
-Males-must wear swimming trunks, not briefs.
-Please provide your own towel.
-Athletes may compete in up to 3 events. Competition is optional.
-If you need a flotation device/kickboard or have any questions, please message HOD/Coach Heidi.

Though the wet, chilly and windy weather required field events to be canceled, Team Gatesville gave their all on the track! 💙🖤
