Would you like a raised garden bed to tend and grow your own food in 2026? Would you like to teach your children and grandchildren about gardening?
Spring start on Friday with the vernal equinox Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10:46 A.M.! And we're preparing the Scott County Community Garden for our 11th season. We’re cleaning raised beds, assessing & making repairs, replenishing beds as needed with compost, fertilizer and lime. The beds should be ready after April 15th for planting cool weather plants if you elect to grow those types.
If you’re interested in becoming one of our new gardeners, we do have raised beds available at this time to adopt at no charge. We’re accepting 2026 garden bed applications. Please feel free to call me at 276-594-0223 and I can provide an application.
We'll have an article in the Scott County Virginia Star in early April about the community garden, so keep an eye out for that news.
We haven't scheduled a date yet for our Spring planting day at the community garden until we see how warm or cold the weather is later this Spring. We'll keep you posted on that date.
On our Spring planting day, we usually have seeds and warm weather plants available on a first come/first served basis that you can select from and plant in your beds at no charge. These include seeds and plants such as tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers and more. Experienced gardeners will be available as well to help in planting, share information, and answer questions. It's always a fun time, so bring your hand tools and gloves. We'll probably get a little dirty!
Feel free to call or text me if you’re interested in a raised bed for 2026, or have any questions regarding the above,
