🎓 Transfer Opportunity Update for MECC Students

We’re excited to share new Guaranteed Admission Agreements that create clear, affordable pathways from MECC to four-year institutions.

✔️ Radford University RN-to-BSN (Fast Track)
MECC nursing graduates who earn their AAS in Nursing and meet program requirements are guaranteed admission directly into Radford’s RN-to-BSN program.

• 7-week fast-track format
• Full-time option can be completed in about 10 months
• Clinical capstone can be completed close to home
• Designed specifically for working RNs

For many families earning under $100,000 annually, Radford offers significant financial support opportunities. With today’s new federal lending limits, this pathway could allow students to complete both the ADN and BSN at very low, or potentially minimal, cost while preserving federal loan eligibility for future graduate degrees.

✔️ Eastern Mennonite University
Students who complete a qualifying transfer associate degree may receive guaranteed admission when GPA requirements are met.

✔️ University of Virginia School of Engineering
High-achieving STEM students who meet specific GPA and course benchmarks may qualify for guaranteed admission to UVA Engineering.

Starting at MECC continues to be one of the smartest financial and academic decisions you can make.

If you are planning to transfer — especially in Nursing or Engineering — connect with your advisor early to make sure you’re on the correct pathway.

Region VII Superintendents Announce Dr. Gina Wohlford as the 2025–2026 Superintendent of the Year

Region VII Superintendents are proud to announce Dr. Gina Wohlford as the 2025–2026 Region VII Superintendent of the Year.

A Legacy of Purposeful Leadership
Now in her 31st year in education and 9th year as superintendent, Dr. Wohlford exemplifies visionary leadership guided by a profound sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence. Under her direction, her school division continues to thrive under a clear and focused mission – to provide a safe, supportive, and rigorous learning environment that cultivates critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.
Her vision inspires all students to become responsible, productive citizens prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world.

A Theme Grounded in Heart and Community
Dr. Wohlford’s current theme underscores her core belief that student success flourishes through strong community partnerships, compassionate teaching, and an intentional focus on the whole child. She reminds us that education is not merely the delivery of curriculum-it is the building of futures.
From early learners to graduating seniors, her leadership ensures that every student grows into a confident, capable, and civic-minded individual.

Leadership Priorities that Reflect Dedication
Dr. Wohlford’s leadership is characterized by her steadfast commitment to:
Supporting learners with equitable access, personalized support, and high expectations
Investing in people-teachers, paraprofessionals, staff, and administrators who serve students daily
Strengthening community connections through collaboration with families, local agencies, and business leaders
Celebrating individuals and resilience within a small but mighty school division where everyone matters
Placing children first, ensuring they have every opportunity to achieve and succeed at the highest levels

A Leader Beyond Her Division
Beyond the borders of her own division, Dr. Wohlford has been an active force in advancing educational excellence across Region VII. She collaborates with fellow superintendents, shares innovative practices, mentors colleagues, and advocates for initiatives that elevate all divisions within the region. Her efforts have helped make Region VII one of the most unified and dynamic superintendent regions in Virginia.
Her integrity, vision, and tireless dedication make her a model of excellence and an inspiration to colleagues across the Commonwealth.

Her leadership stands as a testament to what can be achieved through purpose, passion, and commitment to students, educators, and communities alike.

Congratulations, Dr. Gina Wohlford – an extraordinary leader shaping extraordinary futures.

The next step in this journey is to be honored at the Spring VASS conference where one of the eight Regional Superintendents of the Year will be named Virginia State Superintendent of the Year. Best of luck!

METGo! Expands to Lee County! 🚐

Mountain Empire Transit (MET) celebrated the launch of its METGo! on-demand service zone in Lee County with a ribbon cutting on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Lee Theatre in Pennington Gap.

The Lee County expansion marks METGo!’s third service zone, adding the Pennington Gap and Jonesville areas to existing zones in Wise–Norton and Big Stone Gap–Appalachia.

METGo! operates like Uber or Lyft, allowing riders to request affordable, on-demand trips within designated zones for just $1 per ride. Rides can be booked easily through the METGo! app, available on iOS and Android by searching “MET Go.”

This addition continues MET’s mission to increase transportation access and flexibility for residents across Southwest Virginia.
